About Us: We are Ocado Technology and we empower global grocery retailers with cutting-edge cloud, robotics, AI, and IoT. Our Ocado Smart Platform (OSP) powers highly automated Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFCs), enabling efficient, single-pick online grocery delivery. We focus on protecting sensitive data, people, customers and assets through Ocado's Information Security team.
About the role: This role forms part of the team that underpins Ocado Technology's technical focus, driving technical excellence and being a key contributor to your team and department you will be a go-to person in your team, with deep expertise, strong problem solving and knowledge sharing. Youll be working with others to find great solutions and taking an active role in technical decision making across your team and department.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and influence: Contribute significantly to setting technical direction
* Develop other engineers into more capable and experienced people
* Provide mentorship and coaching for others across your department on technical craft
* Apply good strategic judgement in supporting architectural decision making
* Be responsible for your personal delivery towards team goals
* Collaborate with the Product Team to understand customer needs and meet them within technical constraints
* Be the go-to person for your specialism or domain within your department
* Manage upwards effectively, ensuring stakeholders are informed of progress, celebrating team successes and making key risks visible
* Build good relationships across the team and other stakeholders, promoting a one Ocado approach
* Support recruitment through technical interviewing or related activities
* Promote new ideas in the infrastructure and automation space
* Provide technical mentoring of junior engineers
* Design for Future: Make consistently good design decisions considering business, technical and economic context
* Support other teams to solve their problems and communicate outcomes effectively
* Prepare the department for future endeavours by applying breadth or depth of experience
* Evaluate multiple solutions and communicate benefits and drawbacks
* Understand the technology well and act as a proxy for other stakeholders when needed
* Create tools and processes to reduce repetitive tasks
* Assess when automation and programmatic techniques should be used; embrace low-code where appropriate

* Participate in the full delivery lifecycle, mentoring others at each stage

* Embrace and extend IaC capabilities and document designs, changes and infrastructure
* Support: Deliver solutions to ongoing support queries
* Provide second-line product support with autonomy in critical situations
* Reduce manual support via process and/or product improvements
* Participate in out-of-hours support rota
* Be a point of escalation for junior members and the wider department
* Support the wider team during incidents and outages
* Microsoft Environments: Deep knowledge of Entra ID, Windows Server, Active Directory, and Microsoft Azure services (VMs, container instances, Function Apps, VWAN, Azure Firewall, Automation Accounts).
* Scripting & Automation: Proficient in PowerShell for system automation (e.g., JML processes), data handling, and admin tasks; Python and REST API scripting also essential.
* DevOps Tools: Experience with Azure DevOps, GitLab, or similar CI/CD platforms.
* Infrastructure as Code: Practical experience with Terraform and cloud provisioning.
Bonus Skills That Set You Apart
* Virtualisation & OS: VMware vCenter, intermediate Linux, and basic MSSQL knowledge.
* Modern IT Environments: Experience with Zero Trust security models, Google Workspace, Citrix, and thin/edge client management (Wyse/IGEL/Intune).
* Network & Security Foundations: Strong TCP/IP troubleshooting, DNS, DHCP, PKI in large-scale or production environments.
