This is an excellent opportunity to join a complex, multi-entity business in a key leadership role, overseeing the delivery of payroll services across a large and diverse workforce. Reporting into the Head of Payroll, you will take ownership of the end-to-end payroll function, lead a team of payroll professionals whilst ensuring the accurate and timely processing of weekly and monthly payrolls. This role combines operational leadership with hands-on technical expertise and offers the opportunity to contribute to business transformation, systems development, and continuous improvement initiatives. Key Responsibilities Lead the successful delivery of multiple weekly and monthly payrolls across a complex organisational structure. Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, statutory reporting requirements, and HMRC regulations. Review and reconcile FPS submissions and payroll data. Apply knowledge of IR35 legislation and support status determination processes. Manage, mentor, and develop a team of Payroll Seniors and Advisors. Build strong working relationships with HR, Finance, and operational stakeholders. Drive process improvements, controls, and efficiencies across the payroll function. Support payroll-related projects, acquisitions, integrations, and organisational change initiatives. Provide hands-on support during key payroll periods and team absences. About You To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced payroll leader with a strong technical background and a passion for delivering a high-quality payroll service. You will ideally possess: Proven experience managing payroll operations across multiple entities or business units. At least five years' experience leading and developing payroll teams. Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation, HMRC processes and statutory compliance. Experience of IR35, salary sacrifice schemes and taxable benefits administration. Previous involvement in acquisitions, TUPE transfers, or business integrations. Excellent analytical skills with a meticulous approach to auditing and reconciliation. Exposure to payroll and HR systems implementation projects. CIPP Level 4 qualification (or equivalent) as a minimum. Experience with IRIS Cascade or similar payroll systems would be advantageous.
