Overview
Join the Fusion and Modular Nuclear Business Unit! Assystem are expanding our Stress capability and are looking for enthusiastic Stress Engineers to join us and contribute to the delivery of essential projects within the nuclear sector. In this role, you'll apply your expertise in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to perform detailed assessments of nuclear components, ensuring compliance with design codes such as ASME III and RCC-M. You'll be involved in project planning, delivery, and reporting, and will communicate regularly with internal and external stakeholders, including client technical leads. This role offers the opportunity to work both within client teams and from our Assystem offices, providing a variety of project experiences.
Responsibilities
* Your mission:
* Desire to learn: Work with our experienced team; you will be supported in developing skills and competencies on a range of projects and customers.
* Technical aptitude: Plan, undertake and report simulation and assessment projects using tools such as ANSYS or Abaqus FEA software, and calculations using MathCAD.
* Digital first: Familiarity with engineering and data management software (document control, Product Lifecycle Management, MS Office, TEAMS, etc.).
* Collaborative: Work as part of a team and communicate effectively; able to work independently where appropriate.
* Delivery focused: Driven to achieve milestones and produce high-quality outputs to time and cost budgets.
* Commercially aware: Understanding of the commercial context of project delivery, including milestones, requirements compliance, change and technical risk management.
* Organised & Communicative: Able to organise and plan effectively with excellent communication skills.
* Report writing: Ability to write high-quality, clear, concise and accurate technical reports.
Qualifications
Essential:
* Nuclear industry experience (defence) preferable, but transferable skills from other disciplines accepted
* Demonstrable expertise in fatigue, fracture, thermal, and structural stress assessments using finite element analysis
* Finite Element analysis in ABAQUS (explicit/implicit)
* ABAQUS/CAE or equivalent (desirable)
* Code assessment to ASME B&PVC and RCC-M; RCC-M a plus
* Knowledge of structural integrity & defect tolerance assessments
* Python scripting in ABAQUS environment desirable
* CRACKEN or alternative fracture assessment experience Highly desirable
* Fatigue crack growth & initiation experience desirable
* Familiar with gated review process
Desirable / Preferred:
* Previous experience in similar roles in the nuclear or fusion industry
* Hands-on experience of 3D modelling in CAD software (Autodesk Inventor, Catia or SolidWorks)
* Experience of CFD or dynamic modelling (LS-Dyna or Radioss)

Additional information: BPSS and SC required. Ability to travel to Assystem offices and customer sites within the UK. To undertake work packages supporting major UK and international Nuclear Clients. Residency criteria may apply to attain UK security clearance.
