The ideal candidate will possess a strong energy and project management background that enables them to engage with both internal business partners and external energy stakeholders. They will demonstrate an ability to think strategically about our business, our technical challenges and have a skill-set to drive tactical execution of contracts, energy initiatives and team goals. By establishing and growing business and technical relationships, and managing the day-to-day interactions with these partners, you will be responsible for meeting the energy team objectives to support AWS's infrastructure expansion in Japan region.
This role is based out of Japan. 10% travel may be required.
Key job responsibilities
Manage the interconnection of AWS data centers in the region to the electric grid by working with utilities and local authorities to ensure on time, on budget and to specifications MV & HV transmission works & substation delivery.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders including Planning, Real estate, Design, Procurement, Construction, Operations, Finance & Commissioning teams to coordinate project activities and resolve any issues that may arise during project execution.
Provide regular project updates to senior management and stakeholders, including progress reports, financial updates, region strategy documents and risk assessments.
Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including power utilities, regulators, suppliers, contractors, and consultants.
Undertake power due diligence for new or proposed data center sites to check power availability and feasibility.
Interface with power utilities and regulatory bodies to obtain necessary approvals and permits for project implementation.
Managing utility contracts/retail agreements – entering into connection agreement; contracting the right capacity to optimize on power purchase costs.
Work with utility regulators to develop policies and guidelines that enable broader AWS strategies and objective.
Study, understand and have view on regional power infrastructure network and utility planning and changes to the broader power infrastructure.
Manage capital budgets for electrical infrastructure improvements.
Identify and develop innovative cost savings projects and initiatives related to power infrastructure and supply.

6+ years of solving problems with technology in the Energy & Utilities industries experience
Bachelor's degree, or 5+ years of directly managing and responsible for multiple large projects experience
