Fabric Operative - Engineering – St Edmunds Hospital – 37.5 Hours & Permanent – Salary: Up to £30,000.00 per year (depending on level of experience, training, and qualification)

We have an opportunity for a Fabric Operative to join their team of staff in the Engineering department.
This is a full‑time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern including on‑call rota on a rotational basis. Occasional weekend and/or evening work may be required.
Duties of this role include:
- Provide painting, decorating and general building fabric maintenance services across hospital facilities.
- Complete fabric tasks including decoration, joinery works, and general maintenance of patient and staff‑facing areas.
- Carry out touch‑up repairs and refurbishment works across clinical and non‑clinical areas on both a reactive and planned programme basis.
- Ensure high standards of finish and workmanship in all maintenance and refurbishment activities.
- Deliver redecorating works in line with Circle Health Group property lease obligations including:
– External redecorations every 5 years
– Internal non‑clinical areas every 7 years
– Clinical areas during major equipment replacement or at least every 10 years - Provide advice on refurbishment requirements and support planning of decoration and fabric maintenance programmes.
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
- Experience in painting, decorating and general building fabric maintenance.
- Current Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card at the appropriate level.
- Ability to carry out basic plumbing tasks including TMV maintenance and minor repairs.
- Experience completing decoration and refurbishment tasks to a high standard.
- Ability to work independently using initiative while following safe working procedures.
- Basic understanding of health and safety regulations and applicable legislation.
- Working knowledge of COSHH regulations.
- Experience working within healthcare or similar regulated environments.
- PASMA or ladder training for working at height.
- Experience hanging a range of wall coverings including wide width, fabric‑backed and paper‑backed materials.
- Engineering training programme or partially completed apprenticeship with specialisation in painting, decorating or carpentry.
- Experience working alongside contractors and facilities teams in large buildings.
