YOUR PLACE AT AXIOM
Perfectly positioned a stone's throw from Piccadilly Train Station, Manchester Marriott Hotel Piccadilly is the city's leading four-star destination - 338 bedrooms, significant conference and events capacity, and one of Manchester's most high-profile full-service hotels. As Commercial Director, you will shape the commercial success of this high-volume city-centre hotel, driving performance across a diverse business mix and ensuring the hotel competes strongly in a dynamic Manchester market. You will lead a multi-disciplinary commercial team, bringing pricing, distribution, sales, digital marketing and event space optimisation under a unified, data-driven strategy.
HOW YOU'LL PLAY YOUR PART
Commercial & Revenue Strategy
– Set the overall commercial vision and strategic direction for the hotel, ensuring alignment across Revenue, Sales, Marketing and Events
– Own the commercial budget for rooms, C&E and total hotel revenue — with full accountability for top-line and market share performance
– Lead, coordinate and implement the Axiom Commercial Focus Action Plan to deliver on budget
– Coordinate the annual budget, forecast and commercial planning process — challenging assumptions and ensuring joined-up decision making across disciplines
– Translate market insight and performance data into clear strategic priorities rather than day-to-day tactical execution
Revenue Management & Distribution
– Provide strategic leadership to the revenue function — setting objectives, performance expectations and guardrails for pricing, distribution and demand strategy
– Set transient pricing and selling strategy across all channels, with ownership of BAR architecture and all room revenue pricing
– Strong understanding of displacement methodology, citywide compression pricing and peak demand strategy
– Set group selling strategy across all segments — including groups with and without Meetings and Events
– Review and challenge forecasts, pricing decisions and channel strategy to ensure alignment with overall commercial goals
– Deliver consistent RGI growth year on year
Sales
– Set the sales strategy and segmentation priorities, with execution led by the Director of Sales
– Ensure a clear account strategy, pipeline focus and commercial discipline across the business
– Support, challenge and enable the Director of Sales to drive performance — rather than owning day-to-day sales activity
Marketing, PR & Digital
– Ensure clarity of brand positioning and commercial focus — harnessing the Marriott brand to maximum potential
– Coordinate the internal Marketing Executive alongside external PR and digital agencies, ensuring all activity supports agreed commercial objectives
– Hold the Marriott DFM team to account in collaboration with the Director of Sales
– Ensure marketing expenditure, content and campaigns are measurable, purposeful and aligned with revenue and sales priorities
Conferences, Meetings & Events
– Provide strategic leadership to the Event Sales leader, setting clear commercial goals for space utilisation, pricing and conversion
– Drive the hotel's share for conferences, meetings and events — with strategic oversight of event-space yield optimisation
– Ensure events strategy is fully integrated with revenue management, sales and marketing activity
– Balance commercial performance with guest experience and operational delivery through close collaboration with Operations
WHO THRIVES HERE
These are the behaviours that will help you excel in this role and grow within Axiom.
Strategic & financial acumen: You make decisions based on market insight, financial data and competitive context. You set priorities that reflect where the business needs to go, hold a credible commercial conversation with owners and senior stakeholders, and are fluent in P&L, RevPAR and EBITDA.
Adaptability & change leadership: You anticipate shifts in market conditions and move the strategy before circumstances force you to. You lead with confidence through compression periods, major events and market disruption.
Accountability & results orientation: You own the numbers. When performance is off track, you diagnose the cause, act on it and communicate it clearly. You create a culture where commercial metrics are owned, not managed up — and you do not trade short-term results for long-term brand health.
Collaboration, communication & influence: You bring Revenue, Sales, Marketing and Events into alignment. You communicate with confidence across all levels, from hotel operations to ownership, and you make the commercial case clearly and credibly.
Building high-performing teams: You develop the commercial leaders around you, giving clear direction, honest feedback and the space to grow.
Innovation & continuous improvement: You look for competitive advantage in distribution, channel mix, digital presence and event space optimisation. You bring fresh commercial thinking, challenge the status quo and build the habit of improvement into your team.
