An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated and forward-thinking registered Pharmacy Technician to join the Medicines Optimisation team at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust as a Senior Pharmacy Technician.This ward-based role focuses on supporting the safe and effective use of medicines throughout a patients hospital journey, from admission through to discharge. Working closely with Clinical Pharmacists, nursing staff and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in medicines reconciliation, discharge planning, patient counselling and improving patient outcomes through high-quality medicines optimisation services.The successful candidate must be registered with the GPhC and committed to continuing professional development. An Accredited Checking Technician qualification is desirable, although support for further development and training will be provided.Our Pharmacy department is progressive and forward thinking, with established electronic prescribing and medicines administration systems (EPMA), automated dispensing technology and ongoing digital developments.We are passionate about developing our Pharmacy Technicians and actively support further learning, training and career progression opportunities within the department.If you are looking for your next challenge within a supportive and innovative Pharmacy team, we would love to hear from you.
Main duties of the job
* Work as part of the multidisciplinary and Medicines Optimisation teams to support safe and effective patient care
* Carry out medicines reconciliation for patients on admission and during their hospital stay
* Order medicines for individual patients
* Dispense medicines both at ward level and within the Pharmacy Department
* Ensure medicines are available at the right time and in the right place to support timely administrations
* Support discharge planning to enable safe and efficient transfer of care
* Counsel patients on their medicines to support understanding and adherence
* Educate and support nursing staff on medicines-related matters on the ward
* Assist in the training and development of new staff within the team
* Undertake accuracy checking of prescriptions once accredited to do so
