What you’ll be doing

You will visit vulnerable citizens at home and other locations across the city to provide a high-quality debt advice service. You will provide consultancy advice to other professionals such as support workers, social workers and housing officers, and manage your own caseload, offering debt advice and a proactive case‑work service to help clients manage their finances, including insolvency outcomes such as Debt Relief Orders.

Typical week

* On duty for one day a week, triaging incoming referrals over the phone/by email and providing one‑off advice to professionals. On this day you will be office based with a small team of other WRAMAS advisers.
* Visit clients at home and other locations to conduct initial interviews and gather evidence. Arrange and manage your diary independently.
* Liaise with creditors, including other council teams.
* Progress cases to successful resolution, including submitting Debt Relief Order applications.

Less frequently

* Develop and deliver training to other council teams and commissioned partner organisations.
* Engage in social policy work, gathering evidence to support consultations and service development.
* Write articles for the regular newsletter.
* Attend liaison meetings on behalf of the service.
* Deliver outreach sessions at community venues across the city.

Qualifications

* Substantial, recent experience delivering a debt advice service.
* Good knowledge of debt recovery law and procedures.
* Good knowledge of the welfare benefits system.
* Strong communication and negotiation skills, including the ability to converse with vulnerable citizens who have significant communication barriers, negotiate with creditors, and advocate on behalf of clients.
* Ability to confidently manage and progress own workload.
Enhanced DBS Check

This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS Check.

Benefits

Membership of the Local Government Pension scheme, a generous annual leave allowance, and the opportunity to work in a supportive environment where you can make Bristol a better place. Hybrid working arrangements allow flexibility to balance service needs and individual choice.
