Senior Specialist Speech & Language Therapist - Horsham

Salary: £46,148 - £52,809 DOE (Pro Rata) plus £1 per hour location allowance

Hours: Flexible working hours available.

Main duties of the job

MAIN PURPOSE:

To work within a multi/interdisciplinary team providing speech and language therapy (SaLT) to People We Support with acquired brain injury (ABI) and to lead SaLT services within the organization. To collaborate with internal and external professionals, families, and People We Support.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Apply the neurobehavioral approach to brain injury, demonstrating knowledge of current research and best practices.
* Manage and prioritize a caseload of People We Support with complex needs and challenging behaviors.
* Use evidence-based, person-centered practice and clinical reasoning to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate interventions.
* Conduct comprehensive assessments considering environment, context, and future needs to develop appropriate rehabilitation goals, care plans, communication and dysphagia therapy programs, and referrals.
* Overcome communication barriers to actively engage People We Support in assessments, rehabilitation, and discharge planning, including working within legal frameworks for those lacking capacity.

Job responsibilities

Clinical / Professional Practice

* Apply neurobehavioral approach, demonstrating current research knowledge and best practices.
* Manage a caseload with complex needs, using evidence-based, person-centered practices.
* Conduct assessments, formulate rehabilitation goals, care plans, and therapy programs, and make referrals.
* Engage actively with People We Support, overcoming communication barriers and working within legal frameworks as needed.
* Seek consent and share information respecting confidentiality.
* Provide reports, care plans, and recommendations, ensuring accurate documentation.
* Maintain safety and risk management standards and ensure equipment is maintained.
* Maintain HCPC registration and professional portfolio.

Leadership

* Work autonomously and flexibly in a specialist role.
* Build collaborative relationships and lead service development.
* Participate in clinical governance and quality assurance.
* Act as a professional role model and accept accountability.

Evidence, Research and Development

* Participate in research, audits, and service improvement initiatives.
* Contribute to meetings and liaise with clinical teams and networks.

Facilitation of Learning

* Support learning culture and contribute to training and development of staff and stakeholders.

Personal Development, Supervision and Training

* Maintain and improve professional competence through continuous professional development and supervision.
* Attend relevant training and mandatory courses.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
* HCPC registration
* Achieved Dysphagia Competencies
* Experience in hospital or residential settings
* Membership of RCSLT
* Experience in neurological or ABI services, 4+ years
