I’m looking for a kind, reliable male support worker to spend time with a lovely gentleman living with dementia in a care home. This is a companionship role only — no personal care involved.
You’d simply be offering company, chatting about his past hobbies and interests, and encouraging him to join in activities that he might enjoy. When the weather’s nice, he enjoys trips out in his wheelchair to the local park for some fresh air and maybe an ice cream
About my client:
Passionate about classic cars (he owned quite a few in the past)
Enjoys word searches and simple games like cards
Loves friendly conversation and calm companionship, though he sometimes needs encouragement to get involved in activities or conversations. Once engaged, he really enjoys himself — so patience, good communication skills, and gentle persistence are key.
Role details:
1 hour per week to start, with the possibility of more hours
Based in Abingdon, OX14 3UJ
£14–£18 per hour (depending on experience)
The gentleman’s wife will meet shortlisted applicants before any offer, to ensure a good match and personally introduce you to her husband
No personal care – purely social visits and companionship
Requirements:
Experience supporting older adults (dementia experience ideal)
In-date DBS certificate
Proof of identification
Kind, patient, and trustworthy nature
Good communication skills and willingness to encourage gentle engagement
