The Role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Commissioning Engineer to lead the commissioning of building systems across London-based projects.
You will be responsible for delivering full commissioning cycles — from installation verification through to client handover — ensuring systems operate safely, efficiently, and in line with project specifications.
This is a hybrid role combining site-based commissioning work with home-based documentation, reporting, and planning.
Key Responsibilities
Commissioning & Technical Delivery
* Lead commissioning of HVAC systems, BMS/controls, sensors, actuators, and associated plant
* Oversee installation verification, panel checks, and point-to-point testing
* Execute commissioning scripts, cause & effect matrices, and Functional Performance Tests (FPTs)
* Validate control sequences in line with design intent
* Tune and optimise control strategies for energy efficiency and system stability
* Carry out Integrated System Testing (IST) and seasonal commissioning
Fault Finding & Optimisation
* Diagnose and rectify control wiring, network, and integration faults
* Troubleshoot BMS hardware, controllers, and field devices
* Identify system performance issues and recommend improvements
* Modify and optimise control logic where required
Documentation & Compliance
* Produce and manage commissioning documentation including:
* RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements)
* Commissioning plans and scripts
* Test sheets and performance reports
* O&M manuals and handover packs
* Ensure compliance with:
* Project specifications
* British Standards
* Health & Safety regulations
* Company QA procedures
Project & Stakeholder Coordination
* Liaise with Project Managers, design engineers, subcontractors, and clients
* Attend commissioning meetings and progress reviews
* Support client demonstrations and training sessions
* Contribute to achieving project milestones and delivery targets
Required Skills & Experience
Essential
* Proven experience commissioning Building Management Systems (BMS)
* Strong understanding of HVAC plant including:
* AHUs
* FCUs
* Chillers
* Boilers
* Heat pumps
* Experience with control panels, sensors, actuators, and field devices
* Strong knowledge of control strategies and sequence validation
* Ability to interpret electrical schematics and control drawings
* Experience delivering full commissioning cycles on live projects
* Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills
* Strong documentation and reporting capability
* Full UK driving licence
Desirable
* Experience with major BMS platforms (e.g., Trend, Tridium, Siemens, Schneider)
* Knowledge of energy management and optimisation strategies
* Understanding of network protocols (BACnet, Modbus, KNX)
* CSCS/ECS card
* SSSTS or SMSTS certification
Working Arrangements
* Hybrid working model (site/home-based split)
* Occasional regional travel if required
* Standard hours: 8:00–17:00 (flexibility required during commissioning phases)
