Overview
A Personal Assistant (PA) is required to support an 18-year-old young man to access social and leisure activities within the community. He is easy going, affectionate, and enjoys a variety of activities. He may need time to try something new but is happy and engaged with others, offering smiles and companionship.
Responsibilities
* Support the young man to participate in social, leisure, and community activities (e.g., bowling, cinema, walks, beach, watching sport, game shows, music, gaming on PlayStation 5).
* Keep him safe in the community with attention to his limited view of danger and limited balance; assist with crossing roads, going up ramps or steps, and staying within safe boundaries during activities.
* Provide support with personal care tasks as needed; assist with toilet transfers when out in the community.
* Encourage involvement in activities and provide companionship, including joining in and offering encouragement or reassurance as appropriate.
* Assist with transport and accompaniment to activities (driving or accompanying by car as required).
Qualifications/Experience
* Patient, relaxed, and easy to get along with; able to engage a sociable young man and adapt to new activities.
* Awareness of safety and balance considerations; ability to support someone with limited balance and limited hazard awareness.
* Car driver preferred; owning a vehicle and a full driving license is desirable but not mandatory.
* Flexible attitude to term time and holidays and openness to varying schedules.
Additional Information
* Compensation: fixed mileage payments per week during term time and holidays.
* Note: Parents assist with most personal care tasks; the PA will provide support as needed for outings and public settings.
