As a design engineer, you'll develop ideas for new products and production systems. You'll also improve the performance and efficiency of existing products. Candidates should ideally hold a degree and have a minimum of 3 years of industrial experience. However, candidates with other qualifications and significant engineering design experience will also be considered for the role at SDC.
The Role
1. Design: Turning research ideas into detailed production designs and re-engineering existing designs to enhance manufacturability.
2. Reporting: Preparing engineering reports, production specifications, and drawings.
3. Knowledge and Compliance: Understanding trailer legislation, safety standards, and applying good practice standards.
4. Mentoring and Collaboration: Mentoring junior engineers and sharing experience during design reviews.
5. Continuous Improvement: Applying Lean Manufacturing principles to work practices.

Qualifications and Skills
* Strong problem-solving skills
* Team-oriented, approachable, and flexible
* Practical hands-on approach
* Proficiency with 2D & 3D CAD software, preferably Autodesk
* Knowledge of MS Office and in-house computer systems
* Understanding of design stress/loading calculations and FEA
* Knowledge of fatigue and induced stress
* Understanding of engineering and design principles
* Familiarity with manufacturing processes for trailers or similar heavy engineering
* Awareness of customer needs and design impact on costs
* Willingness to work outside normal hours if needed
* Excellent communication skills
* High-quality design production
* Honesty, punctuality, and dependability
* Knowledge of health and safety policies
* Ability to seek guidance when necessary
* Legal right to work in the UK
