Job Description

The Times and The Sunday Times represent a combined 400 years of covering news and providing comment and analysis on the UK and the world. We are authoritative, credible, responsible, trusted and a part of the nation’s cultural heritage.


Your Role

The Times is looking for a breaking news reporter. You will be a reporter able to file fast, clean copy with a track record of covering live stories across a broad range of topics. Experience with live blogs is a must, as is a keen interest in politics and foreign affairs, and the ambition to land your own exclusives.

Day to day you will

* Cover major breaking news stories across a broad range of areas
* Run live blogs across a range of subject areas and sections
* Consistently deliver accurate, engaging copy to strict deadlines
* Commission visual storytelling elements such as videos, charts, graphics, maps and designs
* Pitch agenda-setting exclusive story ideas to the news desk
* Help with editing the homepage where circumstances demand it


What we’re looking for from you

* NCTJ qualification, masters or undergraduate degree in journalism
* Experience filing breaking news for a national or regional news website
* Expertise and interest in current affairs and politics
* Attention to detail and meticulous fact‑checking
* Reliable and fast under pressure
* A self‑starter
* Good understanding of audience data and SEO
* A strong understanding of editorial compliance and regulatory issues
