Job summary This 12-month Clinical Fellow post offers doctors with an interest in Neonatology the chance to work across the Royal Sussex County Hospital and the Princess Royal Hospital Special Care Baby Unit. The successful applicant will join a supportive team of doctors and ANNPs and participate fully in the Tier 2 full-shift rota, covering intensive care, high-dependency and special care areas, including long days and night shifts. The role is suited to ST4 / middle-grade doctors with neonatal experience who wish to develop their skills in a large teaching hospital. Post-holders will be involved in inpatient care, paediatric follow-up, departmental audit, governance, and regionally recognised research activity, with support to initiate or complete projects. Applicants must demonstrate established neonatal skills, strong communication and teamwork, enthusiasm for teaching, and commitment to service development. Main duties of the job Training and educational objectives for this post: Fellow posts do not have Royal College approval for training purposes but do have educational approval from the Deanery. The Fellows work in an identical pattern to the NTN trainees and participate fully in the training programme. All trainees have a nominated clinical and educational supervisor and together devise an appropriate educational program. This includes attendance at all regular departmental meetings including Journal Club, Perinatal Morbidity and Mortality meetings and Grand Rounds. Clinical responsibilities: To advance competence in the advanced management of medical and surgical problems in newborn infants of any gestation and to approach being ready to work in a more senior role.
