Closing Date: 23 July 2025 The Role This is an exciting opportunity for promising undergraduates to experience statistics in applied health research. The aim of the scheme is to encourage people to consider a career as a statistician in health research. Two funded internships are available. Each project will involve experiencing working for two months as part of the Biostatistics Research Group (BRG) conducting a research project under the supervision of a supportive team of supervisors. There will also be opportunities to hear about careers in biostatistics and to present your work. We’re looking for individuals who are considering a career in health research, who are curious and keen to make the most of this opportunity. In your covering letter, please provide a statement of up to 400 words about how this internship would play a role in your future career. Applications that do not include this are unlikely to be successful. Unfortunately, due to the short-term nature of these posts, visa sponsorship is not possible. Please confirm in your application that you have the right to work in the UK. The post is full-time for 6-8 weeks. We will expect interns to be physically based in or nearby Newcastle - fully remote opportunities are not available, although hybrid work patterns are permitted. The Internship programme is led from the Newcastle University Population Health Sciences Institute. To conduct a specified project, write a report and present results to the Biostatistics Research Group To provide feedback on the scheme and how it influenced subsequent education/career choices The Person Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience - Essential Currently studying a degree in a relevant subject. Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience – Desirable To be in second year of undergraduate (or third year with plans to do fourth year). Attributes and Behaviour Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work well under supervision and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
