General Description of the Position
Under the leadership of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, the executive director leads the Office of Institutional Research, Planning, and Analytics (IRPA) whose mission is to provide institutional reporting and analysis on all aspects of the University. The unit supports decision-making, planning, assessment, and review of institutional performance. The executive director is a seasoned institutional research practitioner who leads the IRPA research staff in delivering core services of the department to provide official reporting for the institution to internal and external audiences and complete mandated and high stakes reporting to government agencies, accrediting bodies, and other entities. The incumbent coordinates activities that support strategic planning such as benchmarking studies, peer comparisons, measuring key performance indicators, and conducting studies and analyses. Other key services of the unit support enrollment management by providing data for predictive modeling, scholarship leveraging, enrollment forecasting, retention studies, student outcomes analyses, program review, and productivity and cost studies. The position coordinates and develops data collection to meet reporting and analysis needs from the University information system. Due to the technological expertise of IRPA staff, members assist and support projects related to data management, information, and technology.
Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The following are the functions essential to performing this job:
* Implements the University research agenda to examine institutional issues, trends, student success, institutional effectiveness, and other topics. Analyzes, interprets, visualizes, and presents data to various audiences.
* Leads measurement activities to gauge progress of the University strategic plan and key performance indicators.
* Coordinates the completion of external reporting mandates, Federal reporting disclosures, and other high-stake reporting to external entities such as ranking organizations, government agencies, and accrediting bodies.
* Coordinates the delivery of reporting for internal stakeholders using internal reporting tools and resources.
* Manages annual reporting calendar for IRPA work products and services.
* Oversees the creation and maintenance of data repositories and resources needed for institutional reporting and analysis.
* Leads the creation of predictive models that support student and institutional outcomes.
* Serves as a key partner to areas of the University that rely on data and analytics to support key operations such as enrollment management, budgeting, and planning.
* Oversees data collection and data management activities including extraction, compilation, access, and data integrity.
* Coordinates annual debriefing presentations on enrollment, retention, and student outcomes.
* Leads the creation of departmental publications such as the DSU Fact Book, special reports, and studies. Represents the University at state and national meetings and events.
* Leads, motivates, manages, and evaluates staff.
* Trains staff and stakeholders on IRPA products and services.
* Serves on institutional committees.
* Other duties as assigned.
* Education: Master's degree in a related discipline is required (Doctoral degree preferred).
* Successful Experience: Five years higher education experience; knowledge of higher education issues and trends.
* Experience with enterprise information systems (Banner preferred)
* Knowledge of statistics and statistical software such as SPSS; data analysis, reporting, and visualization tools such as Excel, Argos, Tableau and PowerBI (Preferred)
* Knowledge of data warehouse concepts; querying databases, and/or programming skills (SQL or equivalent)
