About The Role
We have four exciting opportunities for Assistant Engineers, Operations (AEO) at Hartlepool Power Station. In this role, you'll help ensure the safe and reliable operation of the station in line with licence conditions, regulatory requirements and industry best practice.
After completing a comprehensive training programme—including Central Control Room (CCR), classroom, plant and simulator training—you will be formally authorised as a Duly Authorised Person (DAP) under the Nuclear Site Licence.
AEOs also hold designated roles within the Station Emergency Scheme, which includes the requirement to wear Breathing Apparatus (BA). This is a 12‑hour shift-working role averaging 37 hours per week. You will be based in the CCR, monitoring, controlling and ensuring the compliant operation of the Advanced Gas Cooled Reactor and associated turbo-generator.
Day-to-day responsibilities include monitoring and controlling the station plant, providing operational advice to CCR staff and Operate Technicians, performing reactor and conventional plant operations, diagnosing faults, applying Safety Rules for maintenance activities, and supporting conservative decision-making with strong teamworking. You will also build a solid understanding of plant operation, design and theory through structured training.
Who You Are
You will hold, as a minimum, an HNC (or equivalent) in a relevant subject and bring experience from a heavy process environment in operations or engineering. You'll demonstrate a strong record of working to demanding safety standards and a good understanding of risk assessment when setting people to work. You will assess dynamic situations, prioritise effectively and direct others accordingly, while maintaining a flexible, proactive approach and positive attitude toward continuous improvement.
Working well in a small team and collaborating effectively with other departments, you'll demonstrate sound commercial awareness, strong computer literacy and the ability to follow written procedures accurately.
You must also be willing to complete the full training programme and undertake an Emergency Scheme role as required by the company.
Pay, Benefits And Culture
We can offer a competitive salary from £45,641 to £68,958 per annum and you will be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Company Agreement as well as your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.
As you'll be working Shifts, the role also brings an attractive Shift Allowance, in line with the Company Agreement.
