Primary role is to support the Mill Manager Designate in the economic and high-quality production of timber profiles and cut-to-size sheet materials.
The Mill Manager Designate, in conjunction with the Production Manager, is responsible for overseeing all manufacturing activities at the Head Office. They are accountable for ensuring an efficient, productive end-to-end process that meets customer needs while conforming to all H&S requirements and legislation. The role involves providing clear direction to production teams to achieve safety, quality, and service standards while controlling costs.
Specific duties include ensuring proper processes are in place to meet production goals, staff understanding of roles, timely delivery of products, and accurate administrative management of materials and stock controls. The role also acts as an interface between management levels and operations staff, providing training, performance reviews, coaching, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures to ensure quality output.
Main Roles & Responsibilities
* Complete production plans by scheduling personnel, assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and revising schedules as needed.
* Maintain the efficiency and cleanliness of the production facilities.
* Ensure offcuts and reject timber are converted into usable stock.
* Maintain quality standards by establishing and enforcing company policies.
* Ensure adequate personnel coverage for all production processes.
* Manage equipment operation, repairs, and evaluation of new equipment and techniques.
* Provide accurate production data, including times, methods, and costs.
* Analyze operating practices and record-keeping systems to create and revise procedures, supporting change implementation.
* Maintain a safe and clean work environment through staff education and resource management, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
* Resolve personnel issues through evaluation, investigation, and recommending actions in collaboration with the Production Manager.
Education/Qualifications/Experience
Must have a good level of education, such as City & Guilds, NVQ Levels 3 to 5, or equivalent qualifications. A minimum of 3 years’ experience in production supervision, timber machining, process management, or related fields is required.
