Behaviour Support Assistant – Full Time | Immediate Start

Are you a resilient, compassionate, and proactive Behaviour Support Assistant looking to make a real impact? Teaching Personnel are recruiting on behalf of a specialist education setting in the Wigan area that supports pupils with a range of needs including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism (ASC), ADHD, and additional behavioural and learning challenges.

This is a rewarding opportunity to work in a setting that places strong emphasis on therapeutic support, behaviour intervention, and holistic development, helping young people overcome barriers to learning.

The Role: Behaviour Support Assistant

You will play a key role in supporting students who require additional guidance to manage behaviour, develop emotional resilience, and re-engage with education. This is a highly rewarding role suited to individuals with strong behaviour management skills, patience, and a passion for inclusive education.

Key Responsibilities:

* Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with behavioural, emotional, and learning needs
* Assist teaching staff in delivering differentiated and accessible lessons
* Support students in regulating behaviour using positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques
* Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and progress
* Implement individual behaviour support plans and risk assessments
* Support students in developing social skills, emotional regulation, and resilience
* Promote a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment
* Assist with vocational, outdoor, and therapeutic learning activities
* Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral staff, and external agencies
* Record and report observations on behaviour, progress, and incidents where required

* Supporting students during off-site or enrichment activities
* Encouraging independence and life skills development
* Helping to maintain a calm, consistent classroom environment
* Promoting positive reinforcement and restorative approaches

What We’re Looking For:

* Experience working with SEMH, SEN, or challenging behaviour (education, care, youth work or similar)
* Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies
* Confident, calm, and resilient under pressure
* Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
* A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people
* Team player with a proactive and flexible approach

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
