JOB PURPOSE
The Mid-Form Explainers Team is part of Global Journalism and provides explanatory video and related text content to World Service Languages and BBC News. These films make complex stories and themes accessible to wide audiences through clear and engaging scripts and gripping visuals. The focus of this role is creating animations and graphics sequences that grab the viewer and help our videos connect with underserved young and female audiences across global regions.
WHY JOIN THE TEAM
In this role you will pitch your own stories, storyboard visuals, and create animations and video edits. You will be part of a supportive and passionate team where guidance and training are available to build on your animation skills. We collaborate with regional experts from across the WS Languages to ensure our films contain insight and nuance that can’t be found on other broadcasters.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
* Storyboard, create graphics/animated sequences and templates using Adobe After Effects.
* Work across all areas of digital production using FCP to edit strong Explainer videos. Ensuring the videos adhere to BBC News style, copyright, legal and editorial guidelines.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues across the 43 language services to ensure the content meets the expectations of our audiences.
* Use analytics tools to track the performance of content and use the analysis to inform future production.
* Proactively stay across the news agenda, visual trends and emerging production tools for digital and social platforms.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
* You will have deep knowledge of the BBC Language services and global regions, with a clear understanding of their audience needs.
* You will have experience of using Adobe After Effects to create animations or motion graphics. Please provide links to examples in your application. There will be an assessment as part of this recruitment.
* You will have a high standard of editorial judgement and demonstrable experience of picture editing high-performing mid-form explainer videos.
* A knowledge of latest animation and video editing trends and experience story-boarding sequences.
* Ability to use audience metrics to track the success of content and to identify trends and opportunities for stories.
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
* Experience of using Apple Motion, Cinema 4D and ProCreate
* Self-shooting skills on HD cameras
