Trainee Leakage Technician – United Utilities
RPS is seeking Trainee Leakage Engineers in North England (Liverpool, Bolton, Bury, Wigan, Warrington). This is a permanent, full‑time role Monday‑Friday 07:00‑15:30 plus overtime, with a company van.
About the Team
As part of the Asset, Surveying, and Inspection (AS&I) business, the team provides water‑network diagnostics to reduce leakage, prevent flooding, and meet regulatory targets.
About You
You will work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings and overtime, and travel to multiple sites. Enjoy outdoor work in all weather.
Your Responsibilities
* Assess, diagnose, and determine solutions to reduce leakage and support regulatory targets with accurate service for clients.
* Ensure Health & Safety, achieve KPI targets and deliver leakage detection/reduction within DMA’s.
* Attend excavations requested by R&M to assist leak location.
* Train and mentor junior leakage technicians.
* Handle general admin tasks: electronic timesheets, weekly vehicle checks, defect reporting.
* Maintain excellent working relationships with colleagues, contractors, and the client.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
* Prior experience in water network hydraulics, leakage detection, or related fields is useful (training provided).
* Knowledge of utility tracing, noise logging and pressure/flow data capture methods.
* Ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain high standards.
* Team player with problem‑solving skills, flexible and cooperative.
* Strong written and verbal communication; customer‑focused.
* Can work quickly and accurately to report findings.
Qualifications
* Full UK driving licence.
Health & Safety
* Move heavy items such as inspection chamber covers.
* Work in all weather conditions; night work may be required.
* Possibility of confined spaces and highway work.
* Mandatory drug and alcohol tests and DBS check.
