Overview

The post holder will assist in the supervision of Theatre Porters/Operating Department Orderlies/Theatre Assistants and take the lead role in training. The post holder will be pro-active in generating and maintaining team work, and work with the team contributing to the smooth running of the Theatre service.


Main duties of the job

* Ensure an efficient and effective response to requests for patient or material movement and assistance in emergency situations.
* Undertake routine tasks such as fetching patients, delivery of meal trolley to PACU, linen, oxygen cylinders, instrument sets, clinical waste, etc., in a timely manner.
* Direct, support and supervise staff through a range of duties while remaining flexible for appropriate emergency response.
* Keep the induction package for new starters up-to-date, lead in assessing their competencies, and conduct annual performance appraisals.
* Contribute toward rota construction and management.

Qualifications And/or Knowledge

Essential criteria

* Good standard of Secondary education
* Knowledge of Health and Safety and Manual/Load Handling
* Computer skills
* ILM level 3 or equivalent or willing to work towards
* Knowledge of Health Board policies and procedures

Desirable criteria

* Level 3 Perioperative qualification


Experience

Essential criteria

* Previous experience of theatre portering/operating department orderly/theatre assistant role in the Health Sector
* Ability to work as part of a team
* Good Leadership skills
* Experience of rota management
* Experience of training staff

Desirable criteria

* Extensive previous experience of portering in an Operating Department
