Senior Principal Water Resource Consultant
It’s an exciting time to be involved in water resources in the UK. The industry regulator OFWAT has led the biggest investment in infrastructure since privatization, with £4 billion for water supply and £2 billion for nature‑based solutions. Stantec will continue to focus on this in 2025 and beyond, helping water companies deliver their AMP8 schemes and plan for the future.
Responsibilities
* Lead the planning, delivery and implementation of water resource projects, ensuring scope, budget, timescale, quality and regulatory requirements.
* Bring experience to the team and support early‑career members in technical areas such as WRMPs, regional water resource plans, drought plans, water resource modelling, demand management, options development and optimisation.
* Take a client‑facing role and grow internal and external networks to achieve positive project outcomes.
* Run commercial projects, bids and proposals within budget.
* Support the wider Water and Environment department, complementing other specialisms and working flexibly on various projects.
Qualifications & Experience
* Strong experience in water‑resources‑focused projects: WRMPs, drought plans, regional plans, supply‑demand balance, hydrology, forecasting, options appraisal and risk assessment.
* Experience in WINEP investigations, water‑framework directive assessments, permitting and abstraction licensing, wider catchment management, climate‑change impact assessments and options appraisals.
* Extensive experience in the water industry.
* Degree in geography, geological sciences, environmental science, civil or environmental engineering; postgraduate degree in hydrology, hydrogeology or water‑resources management preferred.
* Active membership of CIWEM, the Institute of Civil Engineers or the Institute of Water and involvement in chartered status or working towards it.

Ideally you have been involved in the assessment and development of WRMPs, regional plans, SROs and/or drought plans.
