Plymouth City Council
Youth support worker
€30,382 a year
Posted: 16 November
Offer description

Efford Youth Centre (with city-wide travel and hot-desking options)

Salary: JNC 11 – 14, £28,724 – £32,040
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Hours per week: 37

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Youth Support Worker to join our dedicated Community Youth Team in Plymouth. This is a key senior role supporting colleagues in the delivery of high-quality youth support across the city, helping young people through targeted interventions, partnership working, and innovative project development.

You will have a base with the Community Youth Team at Efford, but the role will involve working across the city. As such, there will be an element of hot desking and remote working to support flexibility and responsiveness to young people and community needs.

You will be responsible for working with young people, communities and partners—including Community Safety—to respond to young people’s needs, offering diversionary activities to help reduce instances of anti‑social behaviour (ASB). The role involves close collaboration with schools, police, and other agencies, including attendance at partnership meetings where appropriate.

Due to the nature of the role, you will be required to work evenings and weekends. Project work will include a range of activities, including water‑based sessions, so confidence in the water and the ability to swim would be beneficial. A full driving licence and access to a vehicle is also desirable.

Key Responsibilities

* Oversight and coordination of detached youth support work and city‑wide projects.
* Development and delivery of diversionary activities to meet young people’s needs.
* Partnership working with schools, police, Community Safety, and other organisations.
* Supervision of youth support colleagues, including identifying training needs.
* Budget management and use of management information systems (MIS).
* Safeguarding of young people and staff as a core priority.
* Mapping, reporting, and evaluating to inform service delivery.
* Flexible working across multiple locations in Plymouth.

What We’re Looking For

* A qualified youth support worker with proven experience in delivering youth work and supporting staff.
* Ideally, you will hold a JNC‑endorsed Professional Qualification or be currently studying towards one. Alternatively, an NVQ Level 2 or 3 in a related area with at least one year’s experience of delivering youth support provision and supporting staff in a youth work setting (project‑based or detached).
* English and Maths at Grade C or equivalent.
* Strong organisational and time‑management skills.
* Ability to work in a fast‑paced, evolving environment.
* Excellent communication and IT skills.
* A commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practice.
* Passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people.
