About the position:
We are a growing startup looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our finance function during an exciting phase of growth. This role will be hands-on and impactful, taking ownership of the month-end close, VAT compliance, and audit support, while helping to build and improve scalable finance processes. You will work closely with the wider business and play a key role in ensuring accurate, timely financial reporting in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Own and manage the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
* Prepare and review monthly management accounts and balance sheet reconciliations
* Prepare and submit UK VAT returns, ensuring compliance with VAT regulations and Making Tax Digital
* Maintain the general ledger and financial records within NetSuite
* Assist with year-end accounts and statutory reporting
* Act as a key point of contact for external auditors, supporting audit planning and responding to queries
* Help design, improve, and document finance processes and controls suitable for a scaling startup
* Partner with internal stakeholders to provide accurate financial information and insight
* Support and mentor junior team members as the finance function grows
About You:
* Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, or CIMA), or qualified by experience
* Strong hands-on experience with month-end close in a UK accounting environment
* Solid knowledge of UK VAT and compliance requirements
* Experience assisting with external audits
* Experience using NetSuite (essential or highly desirable)
* Comfortable working in a startup or fast-growing environment with evolving processes
* Strong Excel skills and confidence working with accounting systems
* Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to manage competing priorities
