Overview
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated seed scientist to join the Seed and Stress Biology research group as a Research Leader. The Research Leader will develop and lead their own innovative research projects within the broader research programme overseen by a Senior Research Leader in Seed Biology. This is a full‑time, permanent research position based at Wakehurst in West Sussex.
Responsibilities
- Develop and lead independent research projects aligned with the Seed and Stress Biology team programme.
- Lead and supervise a research team, including post‑docs, PhD and MSc students.
- Secure and manage grant‑funded research within the wider research programme.
- Contribute to the delivery of Kew’s Science Strategy (2026‑2030) and support the overall running of the Science Directorate.
- Engage in teaching and outreach activities as part of the role.
Qualifications
- Relevant PhD and post‑qualification experience in seed science.
- Demonstrated experimental research experience in the seed biology of wild species.
- Evidence of independent research and leadership, including supervision of postgraduate students.
- Interest in collaborative research and in the use of Kew’s collections to advance science.
- Strong research track record, including publications and funding.
