The Role
We are currently offering an exciting opportunity for a Social Worker to join the Urgent Care Team at Worcester Royal Hospital.
The Urgent Care Team is based at both Worcester Royal Hospital and the Alexandra Hospital and operates a 7‑day service to support complex discharges. There is potential to work weekends, bank holidays and additional pay is available for bank holiday and Sunday working. We offer a hybrid way of working that balances time in the office and working at home to support your work‑life balance.
The role will involve working with people who are over the age of 18, including those with dementia, physical disabilities, mental health diagnoses, mild to moderate learning disabilities and/or autism, to enable safe and timely transfer of care from an acute hospital setting.
The successful candidate will need to work at a fast pace, be proactive and have strong communication skills. The team adopts a strength‑based approach with an emphasis on Home First, ensures a focus on adult safeguarding and mental capacity, and works closely with health colleagues to ensure safe and timely discharges.
This is an experienced and supportive team where you can develop your career. We offer regular supervision and reflection to develop practice and skills.
Quotes from Staff
* The work is short term and fast paced, and every day can be different. Being part of a patient journey in the acute hospital is rewarding when you know that you are helping both the person and their families navigate the systems for discharge and promoting social work values.
* Both management and peer supervision is available in abundance; there is always someone to talk things through with. We never work in isolation and multi‑disciplinary working is absolutely necessary. I learn something new every week and I feel very supported.
* I love working in a multi‑disciplinary environment and having access to their medical knowledge, as I feel it allows us to support more holistically.
* I’ve been working in social care for 4 years and joined a hospital urgent care team in November 2022. I felt I was able to settle quickly and that there is a better balance of working directly with people and time spent at my desk. I am in a close‑knit team that is always available to support and give suggestions. I no longer feel anxious if I am unsure what to do next, as there are a range of professionals with various expertise who are happy to give me advice and support.
* I feel I have been able to develop my confidence further by having access to a large and varied pool of professionals from both health and social care. I am able to feel at the end of my working day that I have supported people to remain safe and that plans are in place to get people where they want and need to be. This helps me with my work‑life balance and helps me to switch off when I’m at home.
