Pre-Construction Director – UK
Bouygues Energies & Services Industry (Equans Group) is recruiting a Pre‑Construction Director to lead our front‑end planning and coordination of major projects across the UK. The role focuses on shaping the success of projects from inception to mobilisation, ensuring robust planning, stakeholder engagement, safety, quality, and innovation.
What You Will Deliver
* Lead the pre‑construction phase across multiple high‑value projects, collaborating with clients and internal teams to define scope, budgets, and timelines.
* Create and classify tender opportunities and prepare tender documents.
* Determine strategies for major bids, tender submissions and value‑engineering by engaging early with clients, consultants and supply‑chain partners.
* Drive bid responses and tender submissions, coordinating with the allocated Bid Manager.
* Coordinate pricing activities with the estimating team, integrating input from technical and project teams to develop competitive offers.
* Assemble interview teams and manage Post‑Tender Interview Presentations.
* Develop and manage pre‑construction programmes, including design, procurement and mobilisation milestones; identify and mitigate risks early.
* Ensure design intent aligns with delivery capabilities and safety requirements; facilitate constructability reviews and design risk assessments.
* Champion Safety in Design principles and embed them across all pre‑construction activities, ensuring compliance with CDM regulations and internal HSEQ standards.
* Coordinate technical due diligence and risk mitigation with estimating and technical teams throughout the preconstruction stage.
* Align commercial aspects between design and delivery, pursuing cost optimisation without compromising safety or quality.
* Ensure compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements, driving innovation and continuous improvement.
* Support early procurement strategies and package scoping.
* Oversee seamless transition from Pre‑Construction to Operational teams with comprehensive transfer documents.
* Ensure readiness for site mobilisation through robust planning and stakeholder coordination.

Who We’re Looking For
* Proven experience in pre‑construction or project development within a main contractor or large subcontractor.
* Strong commercial acumen and strategic thinking.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Ability to lead complex projects and influence outcomes at a senior level.
* Track record of managing high‑performing teams.
* Experience in bid management or a similar role.
* Thorough understanding of UK Health & Safety construction laws.
* Degree or equivalent in Engineering or Construction (desirable).
* Evidence of the right to work in the UK is required.
