Role Overview
As a Chemical Process Operator, you will lead the shift team in achieving production goals set by the Day Shift Supervisor. You will ensure the plant operates efficiently, safely, and to a high-quality standard, while actively contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Safety First
1. Take an active role in all site safety programmes
2. Report accidents, incidents, and near misses promptly
3. Support the Health & Safety Manager in improving site safety and quality systems
4. Participate in internal audits, inspections, and risk assessments
5. Promote a safety-first approach in everything you do
Daily Duties
6. Carry out delegated tasks ensuring compliance, productivity, and quality
7. Assist with troubleshooting and process optimisation
8. Accurately complete batch records and process documentation
9. Maintain excellent housekeeping and safety standards in all work areas
10. Log maintenance issues through CMMS and collaborate closely with the maintenance team
11. Communicate key updates to the shift leader for effective handovers
12. Liaise with Quality Control and other departments to ensure smooth production
Monthly Duties
13. Support continuous improvement projects and attend performance review meetings
14. Assist in safety and production studies as required
15. Contribute to cross-departmental collaboration (Warehouse, QC, Engineering, etc.)
16. Drive operational excellence, transparency, and efficiency
17. Promote a culture of compliance with COMAH 2015 regulations
18. Help develop and improve safety procedures, including task-based risk assessments
Hours and Environment
This role operates on a rotating 3-shift system (detailed above), Monday to Friday. While you will be primarily site-based, some time may be spent attending meetings and supporting cross-functional collaboration. Flexibility for overtime may be required depending on business needs.
Skills & Experience Required
19. City & Guilds Plant Process Qualification preferred, or relevant experience
20. Proven leadership and team coordination in a fast-paced production environment
21. Strong understanding of chemical process operations, ideally on a top-tier COMAH site
22. Demonstrated ability to identify and implement process improvements
23. Familiarity with COSHH regulations and H&S best practices
24. FLT and MEWP operation experience (advantageous)
25. Qualified First Aider (desirable)
26. Experience carrying out risk assessments and participating in audits
27. Ability to communicate effectively across teams and departments
