Mechanical Project Manager
The position offered is to supplement our Mechanical business, predominantly to service our Data Centre customers. For this job role, our client who have a premises in Hemel Hempstead, however as the business & Data Sector grows, there may be a requirement to travel further afield. No abroad travel is currently anticipated.
The role predominantly involves project delivery, however in the Project Manager position, you will be expected to take commercial responsibility for the job you are delivering, maintain client relationship and high-quality project execution with a key focus to quality of install.
The role will require close collaboration with numerous stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle, including but not limited to the following: designers both internal and external, architects, GML estimating department, key account leads, project commercial teams both in house and client side, sub-contractors, manufacturers and specialist suppliers, client agents, commissioning teams and high-profile customers. The candidate will be a key contributor from conception, through the design stages, managing the delivery and ensuring that each project is suitably resourced and closed out in a professional manner, to the highest of standards.
A keen eye for detail and a continuous drive to deliver quality work.
Lead by example, promote the highest of standards with regards to HSEQ best practice, ensuring compliance with company standards, policies, ISO accreditations and legislative requirements in all instances.
Exposure to tenders, liaison with designers, estimating and commercial teams. As noted above, we have separate teams within the business to handle tendering & commercial enquiries, however as a client representative, you will be the owner of tenders to ensure they are delivered on time and to the standard expected.
Ability to fully understand the client requirement, technical specifications, drawings and project requirement holistically.
Experience in the RIBA design, delivery, and project commissioning stages.
Good understanding of design and project risks. Identify, manage and escalate risks where necessary. Mitigate risks with sound deployment of sub-contracts and allocation of CDP’s (Contractors Design Portion).
Be able to contribute and manage against the sequence of works for the project programme.
Ability to drive the project programme, ensuring key milestones are maintained. Ability to foresee potential points of failure and react accordingly.
Prepare and present regular progress reports including programme drop lines to project stakeholders.
Excellent time management, ability to delegate, prioritise key tasks and workload when working to strict deadlines.
Good understanding of project governance and the requirement for procedural conformity.
Commercially astute, sound awareness of the contract terms ensuring adherence, ability to highlight risks, manage variations, delays and EOT requirements, liaising with internal QS’s to ensure that the business is commercially protected.
Sound knowledge of CDM Regulations, Principal Designer & Principal Contractor responsibilities under appointment.
Highlight key commercial risk and mitigation measures.
Quality
Generate new opportunities, upsell GML as a business, secure additional works where possible, act on opportunities to reduce cost, add value and maximise profit.
