Role Purpose
At the heart of this role is the responsibility to establish and drive a welcoming café offer that enhances visitor experience, supports dwell time, and contributes to the Gallery’s sustainability.
Position Overview
We are seeking a Hospitality Supervisor to manage the day-to-day café and support wider hospitality activity across activities, events and hires.

Reporting to Visitor Experience Manager the Hospitality Supervisor will be responsible for leading on operational performance, staff supervision, stock control and maintaining quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Service Delivery – Lead the day-to‑day operation of the café, ensuring a consistently high‑quality, welcoming and efficient service.
Oversee opening and closing procedures, ensuring the space is clean, well‑presented and fully operational at all times.
Maintain a strong presence on the floor, setting standards for customer service and responding to visitor needs.
Team Leadership & Development – Supervise, support and motivate café staff, including baristas and service team members.
Lead by example in delivering excellent customer service and fostering a positive, collaborative working culture.
Support recruitment, induction and ongoing training (including barista skills and food hygiene where required). Manage rotas in line with business needs, ensuring appropriate staffing levels and cost control.
Stock & Supply Management – Manage stock levels proactively, including ordering, receiving and storage of all café supplies.
Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, with a preference for local and Welsh producers where possible.
Monitor stock usage, minimise waste, and ensure effective stock rotation and control systems are in place.
Financial Performance & Reporting – Monitor daily and weekly sales performance, working to maximise income and average transaction value.
Control costs, including staffing and gross margin, in line with agreed targets.
Support the preparation of basic financial reports and provide regular updates to the Visitor Experience Manager/Director.
Identify opportunities to grow income through product development, pricing and promotions.
Compliance & Standards – Ensure full compliance with food hygiene, health and safety, and licensing requirements.
Maintain accurate records in line with statutory requirements (e.g. temperature logs, cleaning schedules). Uphold high standards of cleanliness, food safety and allergen awareness at all times.
Ensure all staff are appropriately trained and compliant with current regulations.
Visitor Experience & Programming – Contribute to the overall visitor experience of Oriel Myrddin, ensuring the café complements the Gallery’s artistic and community offer.
Work collaboratively with the wider team to support private views, events, workshops and hires.
Develop a café offer that reflects the Gallery’s identity, including seasonal menus and event-based activity.
Act as an ambassador for the Gallery, creating a warm, inclusive and engaging environment for all visitors.
Person Specification
* Essential: Experience in a café, hospitality or bar environment
* Essential: Experience supervising a small team
* Essential: Strong customer service skills
* Essential: Organisational and problem‑solving ability
* Essential: Financial awareness
* Desirable: Experience developing a café offer
* Desirable: Interest in arts/culture
* Desirable: Food Hygiene Level 2 qualification (or training will be provided)
* Desirable: Welsh language skills
Terms
Hospitality Supervisor – Contract: Part‑time 25 hours on offer (we are flexible and open to job‑share and alternative part‑time proposals)
Salary: c. £17,485 per annum (equivalent to RLW p/h)
Location: Oriel Myrddin, Carmarthen
Reports to: Visitor Experience Manager
