This role supports the Security Operations Manager (SOM) by leading day-to-day security operations on behalf of Portal Security. It focuses on delivering a safe and inclusive environment for students, staff, and visitors, while fostering a customer-service-oriented security team.
The post holder is responsible for:
* Leading and developing campus security services.
* Maintaining secure college buildings, facilities, and grounds.
* Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
* Enhancing team performance through training, recruitment, and appraisals.
* Managing security strategy, policy, KPIs, and SLAs.
* Supporting emergency and business continuity planning.
* Representing the college in relevant local and national networks.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as a visible and accessible point of contact for all staff.
* Ensure compliance with safeguarding, equality, and diversity policies.
* Manage traffic and security equipment usage.
* Deliver regular team communications, CPD, and performance reviews.
* Liaise with emergency services during incidents.
* Identify and address security risks and incident trends.
* Support project planning from a security perspective.
Requirements
* Strong knowledge of equality, health and safety, and risk management.
* Technical expertise in security systems and procedures.
* Strong IT, communication, and interpersonal skills.
* Experience handling complex incidents and sensitive information.
* Proven leadership in operational planning and staff development.
* Ability to manage emergency situations calmly and effectively.
* SIA qualifications (DS / CP / CCTV) and Enhanced DBS required.
* Driving licence desirable.
