Job Title: Teacher - Post-Primary
Reports to: Principal
PROFESSIONAL DUTIES OF A TEACHER
* Exercise of general professional duties and planning and preparing courses and lessons, including teaching pupils and the setting and marking of work.
* Teaching, according to pupils’ educational needs, including the use of a range of teaching strategies to meet learning needs and to promote progress.
* Assessing, recording and reporting on pupil development, progress and attainment.
* Promoting the general progress and well-being of pupils; advising and guiding pupils on educational and social matters; maintaining records where appropriate.
* Communicating with parents and co-operating with others outside the school as approved by the employing authority.
* Participating in meetings related to curriculum, administration and pastoral arrangements.
* Providing or contributing to oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to pupils.
* Participating in staff development and performance review; reviewing teaching methods and programmes of work; contributing to course development and teaching materials.
* Maintaining good order and discipline among pupils and safeguarding their health and safety.
* Participating in arrangements for public examinations and preparation of pupils for examinations.
SECTION 1 - ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
* Qualifications/ Professional Membership
Qualifications must be obtained at the date of taking up appointment. Hold a teaching qualification which meets the requirements for recognition to teach in grant‑aided schools in Northern Ireland. Hold a degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification which has prepared the applicant to teach English as his/her main subject.
* Experience
Demonstrable experience of teaching English at Key Stage 3 and 4 to achieve positive learning outcomes. Demonstrable experience of using a range of teaching strategies to meet the learning needs of pupils. Demonstrable experience of using digital media/technology to enhance teaching and learning. Demonstrable experience of using a range of effective classroom approaches to support pupils including those with Special Educational Needs.

Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up post. Pre-employment Check.
SECTION 2 - ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
* Knowledge
Knowledge of Northern Ireland Curriculum; safeguarding and child protection; SEND Code of Practice; IT systems and digital classroom tools; current assessment methods.
* Skills / Abilities
Effective teaching and classroom management; inclusive learning environment; collaboration with pupils, colleagues, parents and community; teamwork and self-motivation.
* Values Orientation / Identification with School Ethos
Evidence of alignment with the School’s Values/ethos (information available on the school’s website).
SECTION 3 - DESIRABLE CRITERIA
* Desirable Criteria
Demonstrable experience of monitoring pupil progress, performance, target setting and intervention.

Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (Northern Ireland) Order 2007 defines working directly with children or young people as regulated activity. If recommended for appointment to a post involving regulated activity, an Enhanced Disclosure of Criminal Background will be undertaken.
