Overview
The Trust is seeking to appoint a Deputy Chief Medical Officer (System) who can demonstrate a commitment to team working and shared responsibility for the achievement of the Trust's aims and objectives. The post works as part of the Corporate Medical Leadership team, contributing to strategic direction and decision-making with an overriding requirement to act in the corporate interests of the Trust and its patients. The role promotes high standards of clinical care and teamwork through professional leadership to all medical staff on standards of practice, performance and related professional matters. Supporting the Chief Medical Officer, you will promote evidence-based practice and ensure Trust systems and policies are effective. The Trust values continuous improvement and people-centred leadership, and you will model these values, inspiring teams to be creative and deliver sustainable improvements. The post involves wider strategic work including liaison across the Health System and collaboration with GP practices, the LNC, ICS and NHSI/E, as well as partnership with senior clinical and managerial staff.
Main duties of the job
* Take a lead role in working with system partners including ICS, Public Health and Community partners.
* Work with the Chief Medical Officer and other Deputy Chief Medical Officer to promote high standards of clinical care and team working, providing professional leadership to all medical staff on standards of practice, performance and professional matters.
* Work with the Chief Medical Officer to implement local, regional and national policy on medical specialties, working closely with Divisional Chairs.
* Provide advice and support to Directors and Senior Managers and others across the Trust, demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and shared responsibility for the Trust's aims and objectives.
* Deputise for the Chief Medical Officer for a range of pre-determined duties during periods of absence.
* Be a key member of the Chief Medical Officer team, flexing roles to address new challenges and contributing to Trust strategic direction from a clinical perspective.
* Contribute to the development and delivery of the Trust's aims and objectives.

Job responsibilities
Corporate Management
* Lead on behalf of the Chief Medical Officer for a portfolio of corporate responsibility related to clinical commissioning, transformation and system working.
* Support the Chief Medical Officer on predetermined duties and during periods of absence.
* Provide strategic advice and leadership on medical and clinical matters to the Trust Board, Executive Committee and other relevant committees, including clinical practice issues with implications for the Trust's obligations.
* Attend Corporate Committees in the absence of the Chief Medical Officer.
* Meet with the Chief Medical Officer and other deputies regularly to share information, discuss issues and provide support.
* Participate in weekly Chief Medical Officer core business meetings.
* Contribute to the development and delivery of the Trust's aims and objectives.
* Clinical Governance / Quality
* Ensure appropriate clinical governance arrangements with the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Nurse to provide high-quality, safe care.
* Promote an open culture that learns from complaints, incidents, learning and research to improve service delivery.
* Medical Leadership
* Support the Chief Medical Officer to lead Divisional Chairs, Clinical Directors, Clinical Leads and other Clinicians/Managers.
* Participate in recruitment and selection of Consultants and other senior medical staff, acting as Deputy for the Chief Medical Officer on AACs.
* Support employee relations with the LNC and the BMA, in collaboration with the Chief People Officer; participate as a member of the LNC when appropriate.
* Assist with management of complex consultant performance issues in collaboration with the Chief People Officer.
* Participate in corporate processes of medical transformation and workforce planning as it relates to system working and development.
* Workforce
* Champion improvements in the Medical workforce and encourage innovation in clinical practice and service delivery.
* Work with the Senior Medical Leadership team to enhance engagement, maintain open communication and support leadership development.
* Collaborate with Senior Medical Leaders in Research, Innovation and Education to implement the Trust Strategy in these areas.
