Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting for Teaching Assistants to support a number of secondary schools across the Heaton Chapel and wider Stockport area. These opportunities are available for April and September starts and are ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people in secondary education.
The successful candidates will work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to support students both in and outside the classroom. This will include working 1:1 and with small groups, supporting learning, and helping maintain a positive classroom environment. There may also be opportunities to step up and cover lessons in the absence of a teacher, so confidence managing behaviour and supervising a classroom is important.
Many of these roles also offer temp-to-perm opportunities, allowing successful candidates to secure permanent positions within schools following an initial period through Teaching Personnel.
We welcome applications from graduates, care workers, existing TAs, youth workers, and applicants with no prior experience, provided you have a genuine passion for working with children, confidence, empathy, and a good understanding of safeguarding principles.
Key Responsibilities:
Supporting secondary school students in lessons on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
Assisting teachers with classroom activities and lesson delivery
Supporting students with behavioural, emotional or learning needs
Helping maintain a positive and focused learning environment
Supervising classes when required in the absence of the teacher
Encouraging student engagement, confidence and participation in lessons
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Experience working with young people in a secondary school, education, youth work or care setting (preferred but not essential)
Strong behaviour management skills or a willingness to learn and develop them
Confidence to step up and supervise a class independently when needed
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
A proactive, adaptable and positive attitude
A genuine passion for supporting secondary school students’ learning and development
Knowledge of safeguarding procedures

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
