CAMHS Community Practitioner

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Mental Health Practitioner to join our team as a CAMHS Community Practitioner. We have a full-time permanent position available in the service. You will be responsible for making wellbeing calls to children and young people waiting for treatment through the service, taking on a duty role to manage risk and review needs of children and young people. You will work closely with the wider team providing a high quality of care ensuring high standards of clinical practice when working with all young people and their families/carers.

We are proud to be part of the wider CAMH service in Dorset and all it has achieved in recent years, with its progress and developments being demonstrable. We have been fast tracked by NHSE to deliver New Care Models providing a closer to home crisis home treatment service. We are also part of the national trailblazer to deliver Mental Health Support Teams in schools across 3 pilot sites in Dorset. In addition, NHSE have commissioned Dorset Healthcare to build a new state of the art 8 bed PICU.

We currently provide the following CAMHS services across Dorset:

* 6 Community teams
* 10 Bed adolescent inpatient unit
* Dedicated CAMHS psychiatric liaison services within 3 acute hospitals -Out of Hours crisis service
* Closer to Home Service
* Discovery college
* Peer specialists working within our community and inpatient teams


Main duties of the job

CAMHS Gateway is the 'Front Door' service to the Core CAMHS teams, focusing on the assessment of young people and providing brief clinical intervention. This role will primarily involve providing wellbeing calls for young people on treatment waitlists. This post will initially be based in CAMHS Gateway however, due to transformation this post will involve working across the CAMHS Service.

Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service are able to present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.

Person Specification


Knowledge, skills and training


Essential

* RMN, RNLD, Allied Health Professional or Social Worker
* Membership of professional body


Job specific experience


Essential

* 2 years Post graduate experience
* Previous experience of working with adults, children and their families who experience mental health difficulties
* Previous experience working with children and young people with Autistic Spectrum Disorders and/or ADHD and/or other neuro developmental disorders
* Experience in developing and delivering of group work and/or teaching groups of children
* Experience of multi-agency working
* Evidence of the legislative framework
* Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance and its application
* Knowledge of the standards required by the Care Quality Commission
* Previous experience working with children and young people in a CAMH service


Desirable

* understanding of clinical risk assessment and management
* knowledge and skills in understanding safeguarding
* understanding of evidence based practice
* knowledge of clinical outcome monitoring


Information Technology


Essential

* Basic IT skills, normally obtained through practice or practical training


Personal qualities/attributes


Essential

* Ability to liaise successfully with colleagues in other sectors, health service, social services and private and voluntary organisation
* Good team working skills


Desirable

* Previous experience of service development/new initiatives
* Experience of CPA (Care Programme Approach) and Care Coordinating
* Ability to initiate, monitor and implement change

Essential

* Subject to the provisions of the Equality Act, able to travel using own vehicle on Trust business
* Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English to a standard which enables the post holder to carry out the full range of duties and responsibilities of the role effectively.
