Tram Operations Limited (TOL), a subsidiary of FirstGroup, proudly operates the London Trams service for Transport for London (TfL). Our service connects 39 tramstops across Southwest London, facilitating inter-urban and cross-borough travel between Wimbledon, New Addington, Beckenham Junction, and Elmers End to Croydon.
London Trams offers excellent connectivity with 7 National Rail stations, including East Croydon, Wimbledon, Elmers End, and Beckenham Junction, and links with numerous bus routes.
With over 17 million passenger journeys annually and more than 4,200 services weekly, our trams are among the busiest in the country. Traveling by tram is environmentally friendly, relaxing, fast, and efficient, providing superb travel connections.

About the job
We are excited to offer multiple Trainee Tram Driver positions. These roles are rostered, covering a 24-hour schedule, 7 days a week, year-round.
This role marks the beginning of an exciting journey towards becoming a Tram Driver. As a trainee, you will spend up to 16 weeks learning the rules, gaining knowledge, and driving our trams.
The role involves various challenges beyond driving, including delivering outstanding Customer Service and acting as an ambassador for the company. You should proactively manage disruptions and emergencies, communicate effectively with passengers, and adhere strictly to safety protocols and procedures, demonstrating a strong work ethic.
Due to our Fatigue Monitoring System, candidates must live within close proximity to our Croydon depot, within one hour's travel time by car or public transport.
Our tram operation runs 24 hours, with shifts starting as early as 04:00, ending as late as 02:00, including night shifts that prepare trams for service.
Salary: During training (16 weeks): £28,550; Post-training: £40,132; One year after training completion: £52,376.
Minimum requirements:
* The ability to work under pressure
* Experience following rules & procedures
* Flexibility for shift work and unsocial hours
* A customer-focused approach
* Ability to travel to Croydon depot within one hour from residence
* A full UK driving licence with no more than three points
* Three GCSEs A-C or equivalent
