Offer description

We are delighted to be recruiting to a 0.6 WTE Clinical Psychologist post within the Paediatric Psychology team in North Devon, part of Children and Family Health Devon (CFHD). This is a permanent opportunity, offered either at Band 8a or as a Band 7 - 8a preceptorship for those working towards independent clinical practice at this level. You will join a well-established team providing formulation-driven psychological care to children and young people experiencing the psychological impact of physical health conditions. The role spans both inpatient and outpatient settings, supporting adjustment to diagnosis and treatment, promoting emotional wellbeing, and contributing to improved treatment engagement. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a large and supportive network of Clinical Psychologists across CFHD. You will benefit from regular clinical supervision, a clear job plan, and opportunities for CPD, research, and service development. We welcome applications from both experienced and newly qualified Clinical Psychologists. The post offers a stimulating mix of direct clinical work, consultation to the wider system, and involvement in service improvement and innovation. There is a strong and friendly psychology community within CFHD, with shared CPD, peer supervision, and excellent links to local Doctoral training programmes. If you are passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people in paediatric settings, we would love to hear from you.

* Deliver psychological assessment, formulation, and evidence-based intervention for children and young people with physical health conditions.
* Contribute to paediatric multi-disciplinary team meetings, inpatient ward rounds, and outpatient clinic discussions.
* Provide consultation and psychological thinking to other professionals involved in the care of children and young people, including education and social care partners.
* Support children and families to manage distress, improve quality of life, and build resilience in the face of medical challenges.
* Supervise trainee clinical psychologists and assistant psychologists as appropriate.
* Contribute to audit, service evaluation, and development initiatives in line with national guidance and CFHD priorities.
* Maintain professional standards of record keeping and clinical governance, and uphold ethical practice.
* Engage in individual and peer supervision, CPD, and reflective practice.

You’ll be working alongside paediatricians, nurses, occupational therapists, and other key partners, making a real difference to the lives of children and families across the region.

We would like the people who work for Children and Family Health Devon to be understanding, patient and respectful. They should be trustworthy and make us feel safe and comfortable. It is important that they use their skills and experience to listen carefully in a non-patronising and non-judgemental way. When staff are positive and friendly, they help to create an environment that is informal and without pressure.

Successful applicants will be employed by Devon Partnership Trust (https://jobs.dpt.nhs.uk/locations/working-here ) Children and Family Health Devon (CFHD) comprises an Alliance of NHS organisations working together to improve health outcomes for children and young people in Devon.
