About the Role
Join the National Trust as an Assistant Ranger Apprentice and help protect historic sites, conserve wildlife and tackle climate change. No prior experience required – we look for enthusiasm and a desire to learn.
What You'll Be Doing
- Assist a Ranger team in delivering conservation and climate change strategies across a 50 km² estate in Exmoor National Park.
- Manage a range of habitats – woodland, heathland, rivers, grassland – and support visitor engagement and ecological surveying.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions as part of ranger teams, helping restore a healthy, beautiful and natural environment.
- Participate in week‑long college blocks and online learning modules, with all expenses and travel paid.
- Attend regular review meetings with the training provider and take responsibility for your own progression.
Eligibility & Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 GCSEs, including English and maths at grade E/2 or Functional Skills Level 1 (or equivalent). (An EHCP may allow Entry Level 3).
- Age 16 + and have completed Year 11.
- Not in full‑time education.
- Right to work in the UK for the duration of the contract and ordinarily resident in the UK for the past 3 consecutive years.
- Not currently enrolled in another apprenticeship, degree or similar training programme.
- Able to travel to the Holnicote estate.
- For candidates aged 18 or younger who have not achieved English and maths at grade C/4, a functional skills level 2 may be taken as part of the apprenticeship.
