We are seeking an experienced Civil & Structural Engineer to play a key leadership role in supporting and growing our Transmission & Distribution (T&D) capability in the UK. This is a high-impact position combining technical leadership, design management, training, and client-facing commercial support.
You will act as a technical authority and Design Manager on major T&D projects while also leading the training and development of our engineering team. You will regularly attend client and marketing meetings, helping shape proposals and represent the business at a senior technical level.
This role offers a genuine opportunity to influence strategy, develop people, and lead landmark UK power infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Design Leadership
1. Act as Design Manager / Lead Engineer for Transmission & Distribution civil and structural projects.
2. Lead the delivery of designs for:SubstationsOverhead Line (OHL) foundationsCable routesAssociated T&D infrastructure
3. Ensure full compliance with:UK standards (Eurocodes, BS EN)National Grid / DNO specificationsCDM Regulations and Health & Safety requirements
4. Review, approve, and mentor designs produced by junior and intermediate engineers.
5. Oversee design risk management, technical assurance, and value engineering.
Training & Capability Development
6. Lead the training strategy for civil and structural engineers within T&D sector.
7. Deliver structured:Technical trainingDesign standards trainingT&D-specific best practice workshops
8. Mentor graduate and mid-level engineers.
Client, Commercial & Marketing Support
9. Attend client, bid, and marketing meetings as the senior technical representative.
10. Support:Bid strategyScope definitionTechnical proposalsCost and programme input
11. Build long-term relationships with:DNOsNational GridICPsEPC contractors
Project & Business Support
12. Provide technical input to project planning, resourcing, and risk management.
13. Assist in developing and growing the T&D service offering.
14. Support innovation, digital engineering, and design efficiency initiatives.
Essential Requirements
15. Degree (BEng / MEng) in Civil or Structural Engineering.
16. Chartered Engineer status (CEng MICE / MIStructE).
17. 10+ years’ experience in civil & structural engineering with strong T&D exposure.
18. Proven experience in Transmission & Distribution infrastructure, including substations and power networks.
19. Experience working with:National GridDNOs (UK Power Networks, SSEN, SPEN, WPD, etc.)
20. Experience in framework delivery environments.
21. Demonstrable experience as a:Lead Engineer, Design Manager, or Technical Authority.
22. Strong knowledge of:UK design standards and EurocodesCDM Regulations
23. Confident client-facing communicator.
24. Experience leading and mentoring engineers.
25. Full UK driving licence.
