A specialist education recruitment agency is proud to be working in partnership with a highly regarded independent SEN school in New Malden to recruit an experienced SEN Teacher for their KS1/KS2 Adapted Curriculum provision.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a school known for its therapeutic, low-arousal learning environment and strong multidisciplinary teamwork.
🧩 About the Provision The Adapted Curriculum department supports pupils with complex social communication needs, including children with autism and associated needs. Classes are small (maximum 6 pupils) and follow:
Equals Curriculum – functional, hands-on learning
SCERTS Framework – supporting social communication and emotional regulation
A communication-centred approach, including AAC and symbolised systemsPupils benefit from a holistic timetable designed to develop independence, life skills and emotional wellbeing.
👩🏫 The Role You will be responsible for planning and delivering a functional, adapted curriculum that equips pupils with essential academic foundations and practical life skills.
You’ll work closely within a transdisciplinary team including:
✔ Specialist Teachers
✔ Speech & Language Therapists
✔ Occupational Therapists
✔ Teaching Assistants
✔ Behaviour Specialists
Key responsibilities include:
Planning and delivering engaging, individualised lessons
Writing schemes of work and termly/weekly plans
Assessing progress and writing reports, IEPs and Annual Review documentation
Supporting pupils with communication needs using AAC/symbol systems
Managing behaviour positively within a nurturing framework
Liaising regularly with parents, carers and external professionals
Working closely with Learning Support Assistants
Contributing to a safe, structured, and therapeutic classroom environment✅ The Ideal Candidate Will Have
Qualified Teacher Status (or equivalent)
Minimum 2 years post-qualification teaching experience
Experience delivering KS1/KS2 curriculum, particularly literacy and maths foundations
Experience working with SEN pupils, particularly autism and complex needs
Strong behaviour support skills
Excellent written and spoken English
Experience with AAC or symbol-based communication
Confidence managing small groups with social communication needsDesirable:

⭐ Experience working in multidisciplinary or therapeutic settings
