Join to apply for the Multiple Sclerosis Nurse - Annex 21 role at NHS Scotland
The Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Nursing Service at Fife Rehabilitation Service requires an innovative nurse who is ready for the challenge of providing a high standard of care to those diagnosed with MS in Fife.
There are approximately 980 people with MS known to the MS Nurse Service. Fife Rehabilitation Service has been providing an MS specialist nurse service since 2000. The MS Nursing Service in Fife is leading the way in providing MS Nursing care at all stages of the MS journey by embedding the MS Nurse within the rehabilitation setting and within the disease modifying service. This model is unique to Fife. The MS Nurses work with the interdisciplinary team to provide expert assessment, education, support, and symptom management to patients at all stages of the condition from diagnosis onwards.
The post is based within Fife Rehabilitation Service at Cameron Hospital and requires the post holder to travel between various hospital, home, and community settings. You will be part of a team working together to implement care pathways for patients with MS. You will also be required to work autonomously and develop expert liaison between acute and rehabilitation settings.
You will demonstrate competence equivalent to significant post-registration nursing experience. You will be educated to degree level or working towards this. The post holder should be ready for the challenge of learning a new specialty and appreciate the training responsibilities of the role. As part of the learning, the post holder will be expected to attend a 5-day MS residential training course facilitated by the MS Trust and Birmingham University and follow a 12-month competency programme.
The post holder should demonstrate experience of working with patients with MS in their previous roles. This will determine the level of banding that you are interviewed for.
If you do not have the essential skills to apply for a band 6 position, but do have the essential skills of band 5, then there is an option of applying for band 6 annex 21 and completing a 12-month MS competency programme. On successful completion of the competency programme, you will be remunerated at an equivalent band 6 level. Candidates who meet the full requirements of the person specification for band 6 will commence payment at band 6 with no requirement to progress through the competency framework.
