Job summary
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Paediatric ED Nurse looking to progress their career. As a band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse, you will be responsible for supporting the senior sister and developing the paediatric ED service at the James Paget Hospital. The Trust is progressive and innovative, committed to supporting the needs of the service, listening to feedback, and developing a specialist emergency department workforce. We are seeking an experienced, forward-thinking practitioner with excellent IT skills and a good understanding of the EDIS system to record patient care, safeguarding, and maintain compliance with activity and other data collection needs.
You will be highly motivated, well-organized, and flexible, capable of influencing practice and delivering a high-quality service to help us achieve ED government targets.
Your responsibilities include demonstrating excellent clinical outcomes, ensuring the safe and effective delivery of care for children and their families, and working closely with both the ED team and paediatric services. You will implement Trust policies and procedures, act promptly on concerns, and communicate effectively within a multi-agency context where collaborative working is essential.
Main duties of the job
1. Exercise leadership within the department in the absence of the senior sister/charge nurse, attend meetings as delegated.
2. Supervise nursing staff and monitor their work, participate in staff appraisals.
3. Monitor and support compliance with ED standards.
4. Create a caring environment for children and families.
5. Improve service delivery to parents and monitor their satisfaction and needs.
6. Coordinate off-duty to ensure adequate skill mix and address shortfalls; promote divisional policies on leave, sickness, and e-roster.
7. Assist in organizational responsibilities, mandatory training, and record-keeping.
8. Maintain safe custody of drugs, observe legal and hospital rules regarding administration.
9. Ensure equipment is in safe working order and documented accordingly.
10. Enforce the uniform policy in full.
11. Complete documentation clearly and concisely following NMC and trust guidelines.

Education and Qualification (Essential)
* RSCN/RN Child or equivalent
* Evidence of continued professional development
* Preparation for mentorship (ENB 988 or equivalent)
Knowledge and Experience (Essential)
* Experience of shift coordination in an acute setting within the last 3 years
* Paediatric nursing experience working both in a team and independently
Skills and Knowledge (Essential)
