Location: Wakefield
Contract: 18 months contract
Working Pattern: Core office hours 8:30am - 5:00pm with flexi-time available between 7:00am - 7:00pm. Hybrid working: typically 3 days in the office, 2 from home (flexible depending on business need).
Pay Rate: £31.57 PAYE per hour / £42.49 LTD per hour
About the Role:
As Finance Business Partner, you sit at the centre of financial decision-making across the organisation. You will work directly with senior operational leaders, influencing how resources are allocated, challenging assumptions, and ensuring financial decisions actually stand up under scrutiny. You are expected to translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insight and push back when needed.
Key Responsibilities:
* Act as the lead finance contact for assigned Districts, Directorates, and Business Units
* Lead budget planning, setting, and in-year financial management across both revenue and capital
* Deliver accurate forecasting and produce meaningful management information – not just reports that get ignored
* Provide constructive challenge to senior leaders on financial decisions, risks, and assumptions
* Drive efficiency planning and ensure benefits realisation – not just identify savings, but ensure they happen
* Contribute to medium-term financial planning and wider strategic financial submissions
* Represent Finance on boards, projects, and partnership forums, influencing decisions at senior level
* Build strong relationships with non-finance stakeholders and make financial information accessible
* Lead, coach, and develop junior finance staff
* Ensure compliance with financial regulations, audit requirements, and public sector standards
Essential skills and experience:
* Fully qualified CCAB accountant
* Significant post-qualification experience in a large, complex organisation
* Strong track record in budget management, financial planning, and forecasting
* Experience influencing and challenging senior stakeholders
* Proven ability to operate in a true business partnering role (not just reporting)
* Strong analytical capability with the ability to turn data into insight
* Ability to prioritise and operate independently in a fast-paced environment
