Offer description

Job: Field Services Engineer (FSE)

Location: Hybrid – Portland, Dorset (Osprey Quay) and in-field life support operations across UK and international locations.

Design systems that are built, tested, and deployed in some of the world’s most demanding environments.

Join G3 Systems as a Field Service Engineer and play a hands-on role in supporting cutting-edge deployable infrastructure used in some of the world’s most demanding environments. From defence operations to remote global locations, you’ll be at the forefront, maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimising equipment in the field while working closely with our on-site integration facility. This is a unique opportunity to be fully involved across the lifecycle supporting design, production, and delivery. Seeing systems through from concept to deployment, all while ensuring performance, reliability, and cost control.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be involved across:

* Carry out fault diagnosis, servicing, maintenance, and repair of G3 Systems deployable infrastructure and associated equipment at customer sites
* Provide technical support and troubleshooting via on-site intervention and remote methods (telephone/email), ensuring minimal system downtime across UK and overseas operations
* Execute installation, commissioning, and functional testing of mechanical, electrical, and integrated systems in line with technical specifications and acceptance criteria
* Produce detailed service reports, test documentation, and maintenance records in accordance with company and contractual requirements
* Apply and enforce safe systems of work, ensuring compliance with Quality, Environmental, and Health & Safety standards and procedures
* Maintain calibration, condition, and accountability of tools, test equipment, and spares holdings
* Undertake system integration, assembly, and build activities within the Integration Facility, supporting project delivery schedules
* Assist engineering teams with modifications, upgrades, and continuous improvement activities on deployed and in-build systems
* Manage and coordinate spare parts, including identification, ordering, and inventory control to support maintenance and repair activities
* Deliver structured technical training to customers on operation, maintenance, and fault-finding of deployed systems

Why this role is different

* Work on fully integrated, multi-disciplinary systems (mechanical, electrical, environmental), not single-discipline equipment
* Gain full lifecycle exposure—from build and integration through to deployment and in-field support
* Direct access to an on-site Integration Facility, bridging hands-on build with real-world application
* Support mission-critical infrastructure in demanding, often austere environments where reliability is essential
* Combine field service, system-level fault finding, and engineering support in one role
* Opportunities for UK and international travel supporting diverse and complex deployments
* Influence system performance, upgrades, and continuous improvement—not just routine maintenance
* Close collaboration with engineering and project teams, giving greater technical depth and visibility than typical FSE roles

What we’re looking for

Essential

* Level 3 qualification in Engineering (or equivalent), ideally with an electromechanical bias
* Formal training or certification in Health & Safety and Quality standards
* Proven field service experience supporting complex equipment or integrated systems
* Strong fault-finding and diagnostic capability across mechanical and electrical systems
* Ability to work independently in high-pressure environments, often as a lone engineer on-site
* Customer-facing experience with the confidence to represent G3 Systems professionally in the field
* Highly self-motivated with a proactive, problem-solving mindset
* Capable of managing own workload, priorities, and decision-making during site activities
* Competent in IT systems for reporting, diagnostics, and communication

Desirable

* Experience working with deployable, modular, or containerised infrastructure
* Background in defence, MOD environments, or ex-military engineering roles
* Experience with power generation, HVAC, or environmental control systems
* Knowledge of electrical distribution systems (LV) and control systems
* Familiarity with mechanical systems integration and system-level testing
* Previous experience working in remote, austere, or overseas environments
* Understanding of technical drawings, schematics, and documentation packs
* Experience delivering technical training to end users or customers
* Awareness of logistics, spares provisioning, and asset management in field operations
* Relevant certifications (e.g. 18th Edition, F-Gas, PASMA, IPAF, CompEx)

Who you are

You’re someone who:

* A hands-on, multi-skilled engineer with a strong electromechanical mindset
* Calm and methodical under pressure, with a structured approach to fault finding
* Comfortable working independently in the field, taking ownership of issues through to resolution
* A clear communicator, able to engage confidently with customers and internal teams
* Detail-oriented, with a focus on quality, safety, and getting the job done right first time
* Adaptable and resilient, able to operate effectively in challenging and changing environments
* Proactive in identifying issues and opportunities for improvement
* Professional and reliable, representing G3 Systems to a high standard at all times

Not sure if you meet every requirement?

We know great candidates don’t always meet every requirement. If you’re interested in the role and feel it could be a good fit, we’d encourage you to apply.

We value different perspectives and are committed to building an inclusive team.

What you’ll get in return

* Opportunity to work on high-profile UK & international projects
* A collaborative, technically driven team
* Exposure to real-world engineering challenges and delivery
* Career development within a growing, specialist organisation

Benefits include:

* Competitive salary from £38,000 per annum, with potential to offer more for candidates with relevant experience
* 25 days annual leave
* Flexible 37.5-hour working week
* Private Medical Insurance (BUPA)
* Life cover (3.5x salary)
* Pension scheme
* Salary sacrifice schemes (including eBike and electric vehicles)
* Access to wellbeing platforms

Location & Working Pattern

This hybrid role combines production-based work at our Osprey Quay, Portland (Dorset) location with in-field life support operations across the UK and overseas
