Wenow have an exciting opportunity for a chaplain to join our diverse team ofchaplains, honorary and bank chaplains, and volunteers. We provide care 7days a week, and in emergency 24 hours a day, striving to support people fromall faiths and beliefs, religious and non-religious.

Thispost is Trust wide but based mainly at Saint James University Hospital andLeeds General Infirmary The post holder will have specific responsibility forareas of the chaplaincy work as agreed with the Head of Chaplaincy Services.

Job responsibilities
JOBPURPOSE
Provide spiritual and pastoralcare, and facilitate religious care to meet the needs of patients, staff,students and visitors of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Take responsibility for a caseloadof patients and service users with wide-ranging and complex spiritual,pastoral and religious needs and participate fully in the urgent On-CallRota.
Significantly contributecollaboratively to an effective Chaplaincy department.
3. JOB DIMENSIONS
Thepost holder is based at St. James University Hospital but has a Trust-wideresponsibility shared with the other Anglican/Free Church chaplains,volunteer honorary chaplains and Chaplaincy/Spiritual Care Team volunteersfor the provision of spiritual, pastoral and religious care. Primaryimportance is given to spiritual and sacramental care needs but input is alsobe expected to generic pastoral needs and Trust policy development.
Responsibilityfor managing, supervising and supporting volunteer honorary chaplains,students and Spiritual Care Team volunteers, care of chaplaincy resources andresponsibility for the handling of donations is integral to the post.
KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Eligible to be authorised byappropriate faith or belief group to practice as a Healthcare Chaplain.
Educated to Honours degree level.
Previous Chaplaincy Experience.
To be registered or eligible to beregistered by the UKBHC, with postgraduate specialist Healthcare Chaplaincyqualification.
Broad knowledge of faith and beliefsystems to be able to work in a multi-cultural/multi-faith and belief context
Broad knowledge and understandingof workings of the NHS to enable the post holder to work as part of aChaplaincy Team and play an active part in the life of the Trust in amulti-disciplinary context.
Knowledge and understanding ofnational policies and procedures relevant to the provision of a ChaplaincyService / Bereavement Care.
Proven capability of working indemanding and sensitive situationswith effective pastoral care skills; able to demonstrate higheststandards of care for patients, staff and relatives
Ability to use liturgical skills ina diverse range of contexts and be able to make effective assessment of theappropriate use of prayer, worship and sacramental ministry.
Advanced understanding of theethical issues relating to health care.
Experience of collaborative teamworking
PRINCIPALDUTIES AND AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Contribute to the effectiveworking of the Chaplaincy team:
Ensure good communication andcollaboration with all members of the Chaplaincy Team
Follow established procedures andpolicies.
Contribute to the effectiveoperation of an on-call rota
Share in the provision of 24-hour on-call cover making decisions onown initiative about spiritual needs in crisis situations; responding toemergency calls while meeting the required response time
Participate in Chaplaincy role inMajor Incident
Contribute to caseload planningwithin the Chaplaincy team and the allocation of patients to volunteers
Provide supervision to entry-gradechaplains, students on placement and volunteers
Participate in, or take the leadresponsibility for specialist projects and implementation of servicedevelopments with related policy changes as directed by the Head ofChaplaincy
Prepare and disseminate briefings,reports and liturgical material
Contribute to chaplaincy servicedevelopment
Deputise for the Head of Chaplaincyor Deputy Head of Chaplaincy when required
Providepastoral and spiritual care:
Provide and receive highly complex,sensitive or contentious information within the context of pastoral,religious, spiritual care for distressed patients, service users and thebereaved.
Assess spiritual health andwellbeing needs, develop spiritual care plans, keep written and electronicrecords
Evaluate referrals and determine atimely response
Provide spiritual and pastoral carethat is sensitive to multi-cultural and multi-faith/belief realities for thediversity of patients and those significant to them, service users, staff andstudents
Make reasoned judgements involvingcomplex religious and pastoral situations
Maintain effective and consistentlinks with designated clinical areas

Facilitatereligious care:
Provide specialist person-centredreligious, spiritual and pastoral care and advice for patients, service usersand staff
Facilitate services or prayers inline with patient/staff/relative/carer needs
Devise, co-ordinate and leadreligious/non-religious (as appropriate) services/ritual to meet particularneeds e.g. memorial services for deceased staff.
Facilitate ritual interventionsconnected with crisis, according to the needs of service users, andconsistent with the permissions and practice of the relevant faith community
To facilitate and deliver adultcontract funerals and funerals for babies
facilitate necessary rites andsacraments that cannot be undertaken by the post-holder to be administered bya suitable colleague or community faith leader
Make referrals to appropriate faithor belief leaders and community ministers of religion at the patientsrequest and with their consent
Establish effective links withparish priests, ministers of religion, and faith leaders and belieforganisations in the community.
Providesupport for staff:

Provide training for staff,students, volunteers and local faith and belief communities, as agreed withthe Head of Chaplaincy

SPECIFICTO ROMAN CATHOLIC CHAPLAINS
As well as being responsible andaccountable to the Trust, the post holder is ministerially accountable to theLocal Ordinary, in this case the Roman Catholic Bishop of Leeds, whilst alsoliaising with the Bishops Diocesan Healthcare Advisor.
Educated to Honours degree level intheology or equivalent.
Minister sacramentally, pastorallyand spiritually to Roman Catholic patients, relatives and staff asappropriate.

Experience
* Previous Chaplaincy Experience.
