Overview

We are excited to announce a newly established full-time post for an Advanced Clinical Pharmacist - Urology at the Royal Liverpool Hospital. This role recognises the growing need for dedicated pharmacy input within the Urology service and offers a unique opportunity to shape and develop pharmaceutical care in this specialty. As the first pharmacist in this role, you will play a pivotal part in embedding pharmacy expertise into the Urology multidisciplinary team. You will work closely with consultants, nurses, and allied health professionals to optimise medicines use, improve patient outcomes, and contribute to innovative service development across both inpatient and outpatient settings. Responsibilities

* Support the development and implementation of a dedicated pharmacy service for the Urology department, working closely with the divisional lead pharmacist for surgery.
* Provide a safe, effective, and patient-centred advanced clinical pharmacy service to urology inpatients and outpatients at the Royal Liverpool Hospital.
* Lead on medicines optimisation initiatives within urology, ensuring evidence-based prescribing and safe use of high-risk medicines, including those used in urological cancers, infections, and surgical care.
* Collaborate with urology consultants, specialist nurses, and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless medicines optimisation across the patient pathway.
* Contribute to the development of clinical guidelines, protocols, and pathways relevant to urology, supporting best practice and innovation.
* Provide clinical supervision, mentorship, and training to junior pharmacists and other healthcare professionals in relation to urology and medicines optimisation.
* Participate in audit, quality improvement, and research activities to evaluate and enhance pharmacy input into urology services.
* Act as a role model for excellent pharmaceutical care, demonstrating leadership, innovation, and a commitment to continuous professional development. Assist in the delivery of the Surgical Pharmacy Strategy at the Royal Liverpool site, with a focus on enhancing pharmaceutical care within the Urology service.
* Develop, manage, implement, and audit urology-specific medicines policies and guidelines across the Trust, ensuring safe and effective prescribing for patients undergoing urological procedures and treatments.
* Lead and supervise the training of pharmacy staff in urology and surgical medicine, including prescribing considerations for patients undergoing surgery, managing urological cancers, infections, and post-operative care.
* Liaise with healthcare professionals across primary and secondary care to ensure effective and efficient use of medicines, and where necessary, develop protocols for managing patients with chronic urological conditions and those requiring long-term follow-up.
* Collaborate with urology consultants, specialist nurses, and surgical teams to optimise patient care and ensure seamless transitions across care settings.
* Support outpatient clinics and inpatient reviews, including medication reconciliation, optimisation, and patient education, particularly for those on complex or high-risk therapies.
* Contribute to service development, quality improvement, and research initiatives within the surgical division, with a focus on advancing pharmacy input into urology.
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
* Self-motivating and able to motivate/inspire others.


Essential and Desirable Criteria

* Essential: Ability to affect and manage change; excellent clinical knowledge and practical clinical skills for the relevant specialist role; good all-round clinical knowledge and practical clinical skills; significant experience in a relevant specialist pharmacist role; antimicrobial stewardship experience; demonstrable commitment to continuing professional development/education; full NMP qualification; MRPharmS; computer literate; you must have appropriate UK professional registration.
* Desirable: Experience as a NMP, vocational masters degree in pharmacy; membership of The General Pharmaceutical Council; Diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent documented clinical experience; DBS and sponsorship considerations; optional professional details as applicable.
