Ofgem is Great Britain's independent energy regulator. Our purpose is to protect energy consumers, especially vulnerable people, by ensuring they are treated fairly and benefit from a cleaner, greener environment.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineer to join our Delivery and Schemes directorate within Audit & Compliance. This is your chance to play a key role in supporting the delivery of renewable electricity schemes.

You’ll provide expert engineering and technical support across Ofgem, contributing to renewable electricity schemes through accreditation, compliance and audit processes. Your work will support robust, evidence-based decision‑making and ensure schemes are delivered in line with their rules and obligations.

In this role, you will provide high‑quality and timely engineering advice on participant applications, amendments to accreditation, and compliance investigations. You will contribute engineering expertise to the development and reform of renewable electricity schemes and associated policy.

You will also design and deliver technical training to large and diverse audiences, building understanding of engineering requirements relevant to scheme delivery.

Maintaining professional development will be important in this role, including staying up to date with changes to technical standards and advancements in renewable electricity technology impacting scheme delivery.

You’ll engage with external stakeholders, including government departments, industry bodies and scheme participants, and represent Ofgem at meetings, conferences and events, clearly communicating technical positions.

This role offers the opportunity to apply your engineering expertise to support the effective delivery of renewable electricity schemes and contribute to positive outcomes for consumers.

Join us and help shape the future of energy in the UK.

  • Has experience applying engineering expertise in an advisory or analytical capacity, particularly where complex electricity‑related issues need to be interpreted and explained to others.

Delivery and Schemes (D&S)

Ofgem delivers renewable energy schemes and social programmes on behalf of government – this is done through the Delivery and Schemes Directorate (D&S). These schemes are varied – covering renewable heat, renewable electricity, energy efficiency and fuel poverty – collectively, they are worth £12bn a year. And crucially, these schemes are critical to hitting our Net Zero goals and providing support for households.

Through our efforts, we ensure that both consumers and participants receive the necessary support without imposing undue costs on consumers and taxpayers. A crucial element of this is guaranteeing that payments made under government schemes are accessible to participating generators and installations that meet and continue to adhere to the rules and obligations of these schemes.

The successful candidate will be deployed to support work in our Renewable Electricity Participant Compliance team (REPC) and Renewable Electricity Operations team.
