Working as a lifestyle coach on ABL's specialist and targeted weight management programme, Your Health Oldham, you will work with adults and/or families to support, motivate, and advise those who are currently overweight or obese. You will be passionate about helping individuals initiate life-changing processes necessary for permanent and sustained weight loss and maintenance.

You will join a large team of behaviour change specialists at ABLHealth, including lifestyle coaches, nutritionists, dietitians, GPs, psychotherapists, and exercise specialists, to deliver evidence-based, holistic, and realistic weight management in the community.

You will understand the challenges and barriers adults face regarding their health (physical and mental) and wellbeing. You will engage with and build rapport with adults from diverse communities across Oldham.


Main duties of the job

You will deliver existing weight management programmes and support the development of new nutrition and exercise programmes tailored to client needs. The ideal candidate is passionate about promoting healthy lifestyles and delivering client-centered motivational change. A background in nutrition, exercise, public health, community health, or adult/family weight management is essential. You should be an excellent team player with a willingness to learn and develop.

Job responsibilities

Job Purpose:

As a lifestyle coach on the Your Health Oldham programme, you will support, motivate, and advise adults and/or families who are overweight or obese. You will be passionate about facilitating life-changing processes for weight management.

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team including coaches, nutritionists, dietitians, GPs, psychotherapists, and exercise specialists, delivering evidence-based, holistic weight management services.

You will understand health challenges faced by adults and engage with diverse communities across Oldham.

You will deliver existing programmes and support the development of new nutrition and exercise initiatives tailored to client needs. A passion for promoting healthy lifestyles and client-centered motivational change, along with a background in relevant health fields, is required. You should be an excellent team player eager to learn and grow.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Deliver weight management programmes including nutrition, behaviour change, and exercise, via group sessions, one-to-one meetings, in the community, and digitally (e.g., Zoom, phone).
* Lead multidisciplinary assessments with GPs and psychotherapists to develop person-centered care plans.
* Provide education on nutrition, physical activity, and behavioural change aligned with ABL Health guidelines.
* Use a client-centered approach employing positive psychology and motivational interviewing techniques.
* Monitor client progress through regular consultations and data tracking, adjusting treatment plans as needed.
* Support eligible clients in obtaining referrals for bariatric surgery, staying current with NICE guidelines.
* Collaborate with clients and stakeholders to co-produce session materials.
* Contribute case studies to service performance reports.
* Support social media engagement and contribute to training new staff and volunteers.
* Use SMART goals in individual and group settings.
* Maintain accurate records and complete all documentation thoroughly.
* Participate in mandatory training and understand ABL policies and procedures.
* Engage in community outreach at events to recruit clients.
* Develop curriculum resources for service development.
* Support ongoing service development and build community links to encourage referrals.
* Attend team and company meetings, organize workload effectively, and demonstrate ongoing professional development.
* Travel across the project area as required.


Person Specification


Experience

* Experience working with adults or children/youth, facilitating engaging 1:1 and group workshops.
* Experience delivering behaviour change and health promotion interventions in community settings.
* Experience working with hard-to-reach groups and addressing health inequalities.
* Experience within multidisciplinary teams and building professional relationships.
* Experience delivering weight management interventions to diverse age groups.


Qualifications

* Degree or equivalent experience in relevant health fields.
* CIMSPA Level 2 Gym Instructor/Group Exercise qualification (or equivalent), with registration to be obtained within 6 months.
* Sports coaching qualification.
* Degree in nutrition, exercise, psychology, public health, or related fields, with registration as a nutritionist or equivalent.
* REPS Level 3 GP/Exercise Referral qualification or willingness to train within 4 months.


Skills and Knowledge

* Excellent communication skills and rapport-building ability.
* Strong administration and record-keeping skills.
* IT proficiency, especially Microsoft Office.
* Effective time management and organization.
* Attention to detail and proactive initiative.
* Ability to work under pressure and manage stressful situations.
* Teamwork and independent working skills.
* Knowledge of safeguarding protocols.
* Experience with parenting programmes and developing educational materials.
* Understanding of social media platforms and their role in behaviour change.


Job Specific Requirements

* Ability to travel across Sandwell independently.
* Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
* Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check.

This role is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check, in line with legal requirements for working with vulnerable groups.

Salary: £22,308 to £25,000 per year (pro-rata for part-time).
